Today I want to inspire you to choose Texas Tough, colorful perennials to plant this fall. There are so many Texas Native & adapted plants at the Barryhill Garden Center in Leander, Tx (20 min North of Austin, TX). Cannen Barry, owner & operator of Barryhill, gave me a wonderful tour of the garden center and pointed may of the Native & adapted plants he carries.

I’m planting more rudbeckia! They stand up to the heat and come back after a midsummer trim. Lowe’s puts them on the sale rack after they bloom. They’re still perfectly good plants and will get established over the fall and bloom fabulously in the spring. Birds also love the seed pods.

Lots of great options here!! My favorites are autumn sage, Zexmenia, rock rose, and mealy blue sage…they are so low maintenance and put on such a nice display.

im located in Houston, and lantana is so pretty with all the colors there are. another drought tolerate plant is ceniza/Texas sage, i just love it, i got it when i was visiting RGV. its doing well near my mailbox with no irrigation. it took me many years to realize hydrangeas were not gonna make it here, even with all the care you give them.

Thank you much for your channel and all of your hard work! This is just what I need, as I am trying to improve my back yard with plants that will work for Central Texas. You are to Central Texas what Linda Vater is to Oklahoma!

@therockyhillgardener do you keep a gardening journal? If so, I’d love a tour of how you keep up with your garden on paper.

What would you recommend in place of hostas? I tried some in my front bed that is North facing but are still struggling in the Central TX heat.
