Cherry picking when to driver is better than just cherry picking rides.

Another good vid. I do literally everything you said in this vid in my market in Honolulu. My bread and butter is 7pm-3am on weekends working on a quest with area filters. When I run out of area filters I cherry pick super hard.

I work overnights myself on a consistent weekend schedule, and working those times I've also never felt the need to cherry pick rides on an individual level. Because so few competing drivers are out after a certain time, I get rides from super far away (meaning the pay tends to be pretty good) and because there's no traffic I can get them done super quickly, safely, and with minimal stress. Honestly it's great, and the only sucky part of it is the lack of public restrooms. And on weekends you tend to get a lot less moody people, and I find that people who are having fun are way more likely to tip and just way more enjoyable to have as passengers.

What I like most about it is that this works every day of the week and I'd bet it's pretty universal to any metropolitan market. It takes a little longer to complete challenges/quests because rides tend to be longer, but because the business is so similar regardless of what day of the week it is I can generally predict how long I need to be out in order to get them done. So if I get a good weekday challenge, I just have to change what days of the week I'm working and I'm good.

In Massachusetts if you work 6pm -6am you have 12 hours to use the area filter that resets at 1201am on lower tiers

I'm doing my first 12 hour shift today on Lyft to catch surges. The best money is 3-5 am, but I can't do that Unless I stay up all night. I'm gonna try, but baby steps first. Thank you.

This Labor Day weekend in Houston it was a lot of drizzle and some flooding. I have small SUV, so I drove it. Houston had no surges. And it wasn't really any difference driving in that weather or sunny day.

I tried driving nights for the first time, And I expect it to see surges and promotions... The same pay during the day except more risky.

I'm very much a rookie. And coming from somebody that's accustomed to working 8:00 to 5.

That's about my biggest problem right now is trying to be able to get everything done and be out of the house and ready to drive at 3: 30 a.m..

Never drive more than 6 minutes to pick someone up unless it is a good surge, and don't always accept five minutes away if its not surging during an expected surge time. The rule is if they have to incentivize it, it is a red flag. High acceptance rate in my market is a death sentence. Have fun driving 12 minutes across town to drive around the corner for some ones blunt wraps. you are correct about knowing your market. no upfront fares in my market, no trip distance listed just trip time, unless your AR is below 85% and then they just tell you how far it is to pick up. best thing I ever did was let my acceptance rate tank. (7yrs 14k trips /4.98 Uber only). I will say this, I encourage drivers to have a high acceptance rate because it actually makes me more money. I don't as much decline a 12 minute trips as i send some other driver on a bad ride. The longer you drive to people in a day the less money per hour you will make.

The main point is know your market and make sure you aren’t losing more miles than you are getting profit, I drive in a small town and I have to cherry pick a lot because through five years I know the bad and good areas, I know the areas that stink up a car, I know the areas that get you car dirty, the areas that people always tip, the areas that maximizes your hours and miles for the next ride, for example I could accept a 10 dollar ride from a good area and end up with a 20 dollar tip while I could get a 30 dollar ride from a bad area with no tip and lots of cleaning after the ride, especially if they carry stops and kids……..so the 8 or 7 hour that I drive is lots of profit while rejecting the bad rides to keep the other desperate drivers very busy. This is during the day, we scarcely have rides here at night though sometimes it’s busy from 4am to the airport or weekends and if not I am in the gym, no losses. So no sense in losing 5000 miles for 5000 dollars while I can use 3000 miles to make the same it’s wisdom and mathematics.

I work Friday and Saturday nights and have a 17 % acceptance in Nashville even with the rating filter on. They send me so many crappy rides. Bc I am pos picky I make upwards of $30 an hour without surges.

This is so smart. I too cherry pick, but like you it’s not necessarily cherry, picking as much more as it is comprehensive strategy. The time that we drive the places that we drive in the cars that we drive in the amount of time that we drive, or all forms of a strategy, a plan, cherry picking.❤❤❤
