I watched this a few days ago, and today, I bought some cherries, just so I can start my own trees. It is July, in WV and by next Spring, I should have some small trees to plant on my farm. I may never get to harvest any from them, but the next person who is living on this farm, will hopefully get to enjoy them as much as I would.

Actually I found that pressure pliers work better, they work as a nutcracker and it doesn't harm the seed at al.

I germinated it in a way easier way - get the seed, damp the towel, put it in a ziplock and some cupboard for a week. Then plant it. I have two seeds that survived and have about 3 inch growth so far 🥰.

As a cherry farmer I was always taught that starting from seed will only give you a seedling cherry and not a edible cherry. But it also takes around 5 years to see fruit off of the tree so who knows. I hope people buying seeds online are not getting hosed only to find out years down the road.

One thing you might want to add. You can sprout cherries all you like, but for the most part you will need to be in a region with about 700 hours of cold weather for the plant to produce cherries. At least that is what the local nurseries here tell me as I love Rainier Cherries but now that I live in Florida, we only have about 360 and i'm told they will never produce.
