Honestly laptops drop so low so fast. I had a super hard time selling an HP with a 6GB RTX 3050, 32GB of ram, 1TB nvme and a 13th Gen i5 for $380.

As a kid, everytime we had travels, I knew I wish I had a portable gaming device. Im a laptop over desktop guy for decades.
Few months ago I had a hard time to decide between handheld and laptop. handheld almost won but I decided that a 14 inch gaming laptop would be the best for me. (It's different for different people) Maybe after 3 to 5 years I'll eventually switch to handheld. being portable is enough. Some handheld users, I noticed they bash other device to justify theirs. "Oh goodluck playing on that device on a bus or a plane" lol. How about when playing the legit and competitive games? both laptop and handheld lose to desktop but I would still prefer the laptop. My first laptop survived around 5 hrs a day gaming for more than 6 years.

As someone who has had both, if its gaming you want then steamdeck all the way . New gaming laptop's will set you back at keast 1k euros for a very midest spec machine. Having a steamdeck allows you to play on the go, okay while on the couch and watching tv with your Mrs. Second hand laptops especially gaming ones are a huge gamble. The thernal abd batter issue is a very real problem. 500 will get you the deck oled brand new.. very tasty

On the plus side, if you get a gaming laptop, it'll always be heavy, no matter how slim on your lap, clunky, and Always hot. I've cleaned mine so many times and even use a laptop cooler and still sounds like a 747 taking off. Which when you're trying to sit on the couch or bed and not disturb the wife...isn't ideal.

I use my Steam Deck as a emulator for Dreamcast, ps1, and everything under that, took about a 2Tb portable hard drive. I dock it and run a HDMI to the hotel tv, and use my xbox 1 controllers. For that use, it's awesome💯 but I have a gaming pc that I just baught, so i just wait till I get home to enjoy the graphics on there. Tried playing the same games on the Steam deck like the games on my pc, are worlds apart. It's like going from 4k back to an analog tv.
Sure some games aren't that graphical and run perfectly on the Deck. But I would argue that the laptop experience would be better, cause we all know mouse and keyboard is superior over joystick. In short, it's like a tool, a PC might be a chain saw, a laptop might be an table saw, and the Steam deck could be a circular saw. Everyone has it's uses. And to tell you the truth, I love and have all 3 and wouldn't change it for the world. But I would say get a laptop first, then Steam Deck. Get both.

What's great about the Ally is it's super portable, not super loud and hot, and can play games as well as do normal computer things. Plus, it's cheaper. You can plug it into monitors and such. And once it gets too old, you can then just keep using it as a normal computer and then use GeForce Now or Boosteroid and cloud game on it with the WiFi 6. So win win.

Steam deck is amazing, and Gaming laptops are also amazing, that’s all I can say.

For me it's all about comfort when gaming and I feel the most comfort when lying in bed laying a game looking at a huge screen from my projector. I can move into whatever position I want. But for gaming on the go I wouldn't go near a laptop. Definitely a steam deck.

This is y I can’t justify a steam deck. Maybe more, with a steam deck 2. I’m planning to have a switch 2, got a ps5 and a i5+1650ti gaming laptop(football manager mainly), since late 2020.
I admit, it would be more convenient or more enjoyable(e.g jumping bk on). But the power between my laptop, doesn’t seem worth it. Until deck 2, hopefully.
Lcd is worth it-300, compared to the oled. Just play on a nice screen, don’t yah😆 thing u can do, with it.

A new SD is cheaper than a new gaming laptop and a bit more portable (I don't just take out my laptop to play on a comute). BUT you can do a lot more than game on a laptop, you just need a desk. Then again if you are at a desk you can dock the SD with an external monitor mouse and keyboard and it's about the same as a laptop.

Laptop all day everyday, a budget/mid range gaming laptop from lenovo are superior compared to steam deck. Also you can do so many other things with a laptop.
