⚠ UPDATE - Battery Life ⚠

In this video comparison I suggest a battery life of 6+ weeks for the iO. As part of our testing process, it is necessary to simulate battery use for consistency. We do this by charging the brush fully and running the toothbrush through brushing cycles until it discharges completely. The iO continues to offer a battery life of 6+ weeks in these tests. However, repeated in hand testing has shown the battery life to only be 2 weeks. This is a discrepancy we have never previously experienced. All other brushes have to date performed almost identically during in hand test to those simulated.

I ended up going with the Genius X. My main gripe with the IO is that replacement heads are around $15 compared with $5 for the Genius X. Let's face it, both brushes are luxury items by most people's standards.

Fun fact, the Genius X actually was rated higher by "Stiftung Warentest", an independent German organization that tests various consumer products on efficacy, cleanliness, whether you're getting what you pay for and other factors. The Genius X, according to them, cleans plaque more reliably than the iO series.

While the Oral B IO tracks the Brushing time/Percentage of Brushing of the Outer Surface, Inner Surface, and Chewing Surface separately.

I bought the iO 9 toothbrush yesterday and I've been extremely satisfied. I read reviews about people saying it's a totally different cleaning experience saying your mouth will feel much cleaner, like from after a dentist visit. I must say I thought they were exaggerating a bit but I now totally understand what they mean. My previous toothbrush was an Oral B from 2003 and the difference is worlds apart. My teeth are also much whiter already. Also just wanted to mention that it now shows full battery percentage on the display instead of increments of 10 and it also shows battery percentage on your phone app.

I have the Genius X and I find it gives quite good results. A few quibbles though...1: You can’t select cleaning mode before switching the unit on. 2: Noisy. 3: The brushing pressure at which the red light illuminates is too great in my opinion. I feel you could damage your gums if you were to rely on that solely.

These issues seemed to been addressed with the io but the price tag is prohibitively expensive for me. €600 for a toothbrush is nuts. I paid about €120 for the genius in a Black Friday deal, and I felt that was expensive enough.

I think Oral B needs to combine the 2 to make ultimate toothbrush: Genius IO
- sound level of IO
- sleek design / oled display of io with back grip of Genius X
- brush heads of Genius x / standard oral b
- magnetic charge in 3 hours
- sound of pressure motor when brushing too hard of Genius X

One thing I’m surprised you didn’t mentioned is that you have to hold the phone up for the real time visual on the app which I find it to be very annoying and ended up not using it. So for those that plans on buying this for that feature, I would reconsider.

Electric Teeth it would be perfect for Oral B to make an app update, would be to make the to show a user how to position either the Oral B Genius X or IO. So that the app would know exactly where a user is brushing perfectly.

No mentions about head movements, speed, but only standard or sales specification. That's is really important....not the display or other things

I had the io, I returned it. It felt like a sonicare and I didn’t like that it doesn’t have a rubber grip. Makes it slippery.

I want to decide between these 2.
I've been using Oral B Professional Care 3000 for almost 4 years now and it used to last 2 weeks but now it only lasts 4-5 days;
"2 weeks+ battery life for Genius X and 5-7 weeks for the iO" but on paper they are both supposed to last 2 weeks ?!!

1. Is this because of the new motor on iO or cause of a higher battery capacity?
2.Does the iO that you guys are testing still last that long in 2021?
3.Also does getting fully charged in only 3 hours with iO compared to 9-10 hours with Genius X mean that the lifespan of iO's battery is considerably worse than Genius X? (because fast charging shortens battery lifespan)

Electric Teeth when using either brush with position detection a user with need to be position the brush hand to the section they're cleaning. That's how the app will actually know were the user is brushing.
Front teeth: The brush handle should be straight across the front. At a 45 degree and to the gum line.
