I bought the Black Diamond Stonehauler Pro 45 duffel in early summer. It's been brilliant as a carry-on bag for weekends away in Europe. It seems fine to me in a rucksack mode for a couple of km. I think if you want more than that you need an actual rucksack. Love the detailing and toughness. I'm also going to use it as my carry on ski boot bag when I head to Japan this winter. Great bit of kit.

one of the best uses of duffel is to be able to have a single bag travel at departure with duffel folded in the single bag, and able to have a two bag trip, duffel filled up (or vice versa)

So I've already got a Goruck GR3 that I use as my carry on bag. I was able to pack for 5 days in florida in only that. It was a tight fit. I'm looking for a duffel that is small enough to be my personal item on the plane, similar in size to the Recycled Firefighter 12 hour pack, which I've also got, but I prefer to pack into my backpack to use as a day bag where ever I'm going to. I'd also apprciate for suggestions on rolling personal items, if they exist
