I see others have already pointed this out, but you can't do that on 8.1. That's windows 8. When I updated to 8.1, the options bar at the bottom doesn't come up when I right-click. Instead, I get a drop-down menu like I do when I right-click on the desktop, and the drop down doesn't give the option to 'open file location'.
I don't know if something is different from my computer and theirs, but 8.1 also has an arrow at the bottom of the start screen to go to the full app list. I'm pretty sure this isn't a tutorial for 8.1, it's for 8.
They need to change the name of the video.

When I click right on the App I wanted to create a shortcut for on the desktop, the line on the bottom with the tab file location does not exist.

yay you lucky windows 8 people get the benefit of having shortcuts created without the genius idea of appending the extension ".shortcut" to everything by default. I wonder how that post-brain.thundering exchange of ideas went down in the meeting room (where for some reason apparently everyone has toffey-nosed British accents)....

"Oh, what a brilliant idea Steven. You know I like that.... I like that a  LOT. A handy little arrow, but in the corner and out the way, just ever so subtly indicating that THIS is NOT the original file, but in fact a

Oh - but I do Cecil, I really must... how DO you do it, every single time?? Absolute brilliance. I like them both so much I don't see how we can possibly choose between either"

--- Oh, I really do say, I like that terribly"

Thank you so much for the tutorial! When I downloaded my Adobe Creative Cloud programs for some reason it only made 4 out of like 12 shortcuts? Really odd, but it seemed like an easy fix ^^

Miguel, that was one very nice demo. Clear as a bell. Microsoft should hire you to create/teach their next operating system!

you can still do it in the drop down menu, there is an "open file location" option in the most recent windows upgrade, but it doest look quite the same as the video. but the general premise is the same. solved my problem anyway

MIguel, it is a nice video, but does not work for Win 8.1. It works fine for 8.0. When an 8.1 user goes to the "Apps" or "Start" screen, there is an arrow at the bottom which takes you to the entire apps window. If you right click on an app icon, it gives you the option to "pin to taskbar", "unpin from taskbar" or "uninstall", in the form of a small, white dropdown window. It does not have a small blue tools, rectangle bar that appears from the bottom. This is not intended to be a negative criticism of something you volunteered to share in your own free time and it seems to have helped many. However, it seems to be a bit inaccurate. Perhaps it should read 8.0 rather than 8.1. Thanks the same and I hope you do have an answer for those of us who the video did not help.

Thanks for this video! I just sent this to a friend. Not sure if he's on Windows 8, 8.1, or 10. I am on 10 and really like it. The whole "Send to Desktop" thing works the same on all Windows platforms if you can locate the icon to right click. I skipped right over Windows 8 :)

I don't get a tab at the bottom, it just comes up with the option to "pin to taskbar" or "pin to start", there's not an option to add to desktop, or show file location :(
