They should've known as soon as he was fingerprinted that they had the wrong guy

They didn't check the photos? Or the fingerprints? That's some seriously sloppy police work!

Why did it take six days + a court hearing for the cops to compare the fingerprints/mugshot???

It doesn't make sense by just going by name because there are many "John Smiths" even in an area. Even a movie "The Terminator" showed that there were three hypothetical "Sarah Conners" listed one after the other in a 1980s phone book. That is why age, race, color of eyes, height, a photo of the person (etc all go on a driver's license) are requirements a traffic cop must confirm to avoid someone else close in identity to create a false arrest. Welcome, I guess to a police office database of records searching definitely also needing to be updated.

This is ridiculous. You know with all the people with the same name that they would have to verify at the very least that the age and race line up. He should be compensated for his lost days of his life and to teach this police department to be more careful. It could have been done on purpose though, who knows?

Something like this happened to me at about that age. Person from whom there was a warrant had dame name, birth year, and we'd both lived on same street at different times. I did not, however, have a scar on my hand from a bullet wound, so that was aa close as I ever came to a run-in with law.

I'd say at least 100 grand for each day in jail.

How could law enforcement not know the difference looks and race color between two person? The black kid seem calm. I'm surprised.

The race is always listed on any police document. They didn't make a mistake.
