NO COMPETITION?! iPad Air 5 vs iPad Mini 6

Should you buy the iPad Mini 6 or the iPad Air 5? Which iPad is a better value? The iPad Mini 6 had some distinct advantages over the iPad Air 4 - but now that an updated and more powerful iPad Air 5 is available - can the Mini still compete?

The first thing most people are going to consider - is the size. The iPad Mini features an 8.3” display while the iPad Air 5 has a significantly bigger 10.9” display. We’ll get to how this impacts watching content, gaming and productivity later on in the video - but clearly the Mini gets the edge when it comes to portability.

I'm still loving my Mini. I put it in my front pocket to carry it around the house. It helps that I wear sweatpants all day :). I'm not sure if I would trade it for an Air. If I want to watch a show on a bigger screen, I move to my TV.

I now have both. I got the iPad mini 6 a year ago and while it's PERFECT as a chill tablet, I decided I don't really like it as a work tablet so I just got the iPad Air 5 and so far, I love it for my work needs. But I adore the mini so much as a chill tablet that I'm still keeping it and not retuning it.

I upgraded from an iPad mini 2nd generation to the new iPad Air 5. I thought I would miss the small size of the Mimi but I don’t. I needed an upgrade for school because the iPad mini was struggling. I love the Air 5 so far battery life has been great and the addition of the M1 chip its super fast.

I was convinced I wanted a mini, but in store the air just seemed so much better for drawling etc writing notes.

The m1 in the mini would have been the icing on the cake, but I still love using it

I just watched 5-6 review videos on these two products, and this is definitely the best one out of all of them. Amazing work!

For $100 more it's probably worth it to a lot of people. But then there's the personal preference with the size, which is why I went with the Mini 6. For what I use my iPad for, the larger size would be harder to maintain. 8 inches is still larger than any phone too, so the smaller size isn't a handicapp in most cases.

I got so used to the portability of the mini 6, I don’t see myself going back to a bigger iPad. The only thing I miss compared to my iPad Pro is the ProMotion. Hope the mini 7 will get it, buying it will be a no brainer for me once it comes out 🙂

Mini is the best. To hold for long time and carry around. iPad is meant for that. For the rest is laptop. So any larger display in iPads doesn’t have sense. iPad mean portability nothing else

IPad mini 6 and MacBook Air M1 is the the best combination to own in my opinion.

iPad Mini 6 for me. Air 5 has poor battery, overheating/rattling problems(quite many reported), can't make any use of M1 chip and is cumbersome to use in gaming(except with controller supported games). Mini 6 quite literally is a perfect tablet.

I upgraded from iPad 8th Generation to Mini 6 2 days ago, and it's amazing. The size is IT for me.

In some cases, like mine, they both along with the 12.9” Pro can compliment each other. My Mini 6 sits on small table near from front door along with the keys, sunglasses, wallet and Airpods. It is my out of the house, mobile device. Aging eyes prefer the larger screen real estate over the iPhone. My Air 5 stays glued to my hands around the house doing everything from smart home control, text and email, content consuming, browser content, FaceTime, Zoom and Teams calls and every other general use. The 2018 12.9” Pro is also about screen real estate for editing video using LumiFusion, more immersive consuming with its better sounding four speakers. I think a person with far better eye sight may do just fine with just an iPhone and an Air 5.

I just got a new iPad Air 4 and I am personally in love with it. My first iPad was actually a mini (the generation should be 1 or 2) and obviously I find the air better. Though I might consider buying a mini with a laptop when I enter college

Of course the air seems brighter because it is. It’s providing the same brightness but on a larger screen so overall it’s going to give the appearance of being brighter

I have both. I would say that 80% of the population will use their iPad for reading or watching Netflix and YouTube.
I would say that most of the time I reach for my mini. As for a reading device, such as replacing your Kindle, mini all the way due to a higher PPI 326, versus 246 on the air. It may not make much of a big difference when general web browsing or watching movies but when it comes to focusing and reading text on a book, it’s a night and day difference. Mini all the way.

I personally went for the Air 5, as I wanted a hybrid device that could do tablet things and laptop things well, and I plan to try out a 6.7 inch phone when I upgrade from my XR in a few months so there’s not really that much advantage to having a tablet that’s only 1.7 inches bigger.

However, the Mini DOES have a few genuine use cases, in my eyes.

- companion to iPhone Mini - if you like small devices, then the smallest one-handed device and smallest two-handed device would pair well
- companion to Macbook - Macbooks are a whole lot less portable than the iPad 11 inch models are, having a tablet that fits in your pocket makes a lot more sense than a big tablet alongside your big laptop that probably spend 90% of their time in the same place
- iPhone replacement - if you’re not really invested in the Apple ecosystem, the cellular model with Google Voice installed is an all-in-one device that can do phone things and tablet things both really well, and it fits in your pocket.

For a very lazy person like me who likes to read, watch movies and youtube while lying down on the couch or bed, ipad mini 6 is just perfecto!! I don't even need my phone (except when out) or the bigger ipad anymore. Feels like mini 6 is made just for me😀

I personally had this same dilemma some days ago (509€ Mini 6 vs 619€ Air 5, both slightly discounted) and finally decided for the Air due to futureproofing, which is really important for me when buying technology. The M1 + 8 gb of Ram can allow this tablet to have a considerable longevity, and also have the versatility of being able to use it as a laptop with the Magic Keyboard and similar alternatives. Nevertheless, the Mini 6 is plenty powerful (A15 + 4gb of ram), but maybe more suited to a lighter tablet experience, but can have less longevity or even being excluded of some "pro" features in the future of iPadOS. In any case is a matter of considering your potential use and if you need to spend a lot for it. For 90% of people even the basic iPad is enough for their workflows.
