Several overpowered and popular monk builds in Final Fantasy Tactics!
These include things from ranged Shockwave builds to, stealing and of course the ever popular dual wield builds. I also go over alternate equipment options and abilities that may be more useful in certain setups and situations.

When I go Black Mage heavy I always have a monk in a support role using Chakra to restore MP. The monk thief though is one of my favorite builds.

My favourite class in the game, hands down. Immense physical power, decent speed, vast variety of useful skills, such as Chakra, Revive. Earth Slash is so busted my Monks wiped out the entire map without taking any damage from enemies. Hamedo saved my units many times, and Counter is essential on first stages. This class is also newbie-friendly, simple and completely straightforward, very easy to get early. Only Ninjas can compete with them in terms of being OP in my opinion. Thank you for the video, I have never thought about Earth Clothes + Earth Slash combo strat. It's so nice to learn something fresh about such an old game!

I used to build my monk with equip armor, so he can equip a helmet and raise HP.
Great video 👍

On my first blind playthrough, getting to that fight with Weigraf ... Yeh, Monk was my saving grace. Chakra, Earth Slash, ... all necessary. On subsequent playthroughs, get that tailwind with squire though if you want to make quick (pun intended) work of the 1 v 1 and following fight.

Monk/Thief sound interesting. Thieves are great for support since they both can get you some of the best equipment in the game and disarm your enemies, Monks are all-rounded physical attackers than can also heal, purify and revive with their physical attack rather than their magic or items. So it's a very good support build than can also dish out a lot of damage at any range thanks to attack boost and the monk's stats and abilities. I think i'll try it on my next run, thanks!.

That damage on Earth Slash! I had no idea it could do that much damage

Monks are freaking awesome in this game;
not only do they have excellent physical attacks at all kinds of ranges, but they also have so many healing moves that they almost serve as White Mages.

You should do a video about Balk. I always found him an especially fascinating character. There is a lot more I'd like to know about him that we...simply don't know. Same with Rofel and Kletian. Maybe a video about Vormav's henchmen. They're actually some of my favorite characters. I guess regarding Balk, as a child, I probably found him the creepiest character in the game. Theme music, what happens to him, where you fight him, and so on.

This video is so good, as I watched it I kept thinking about like "oh if they're doing 999, what's the point of dual wield" and you literally say switch to Concentration or some other support. You thought of it all!
I like the Gaia Gear + Shockwave combo, always fun to allies absorbing the energy of essentially the ground moving while seeing the enemy damage by the same exact thing :D
Steal is literally my secondary on the majority of my party for most of the game, and yeah its true, Monks and Ninjas are better thieves in general than...Thieves...
In my opinion, Monk is the second best job in the game followed by Ninja (for generic classes)

1 tip that I hope is common knowledge by now, if the class is not casting magic, and in this case can self heal (any class can anyways with Martial Arts / Items), lower that Faith down to permanent 3. Then you never have to worry about enemy mages again ^^

Would be amazing if You put Secret Hunter/Poach like Support for this Monk, with Shockwave.

It's one of the permanent ways to get rid of ghosts and death knights.

I'm going to play this game after a long long time and I'd like to try this build. Do you have any progression list including what skills from any other jobs I need to get an OP Monk?

We’ve had one wield yes, but what about second wield?

Monk has always been my favorite class in this game.... And always has to have one in my party to heal, revive, and restore mp to my other characters. I remember the first time I played and had hamado (first strike)... Final battle everyone was dead and was about to get killed but ended striking first and somehow killed the boss 😅. I was in shock that I beat the game by luck.

I feel like they could’ve let monk use hats or hair adornments. It’s literally the artwork to have headbands

My builds from the original version.

Male Monk.

Punch Art.
Math Skill.
Damage Split.
Equip Armor.
Move + 3.

...
...
Crystal Helmet.
Reflect Mail.
108 Gems.

Female Monk.

Punch Art.
Math Skill.
Speed Save.
Maintenance.
Teleport.

...
...
Ribbon.
Rubber Costume.
Chantage.

Strategy:

In a group of five myself as Ramza, Greatermaxim, you can take two men and women.

The men stay in back blasting with magic or punch art. The women get in the enemies face thanks to Chantage.

Frankly I love watching the girls pulverize the frogs.

108 Gems on the men and the Ribbons prevent that ailment.

My best Monk build is...Ninja with Brawler + 97 Bravery lol

Faster and if need, can steal better than Thief.

Dual wield is the way to go. And with a female Monk. Reason being...if you are going to break the 999 ceiling with damage anyway with 2 attacks (because of dual wield), females give Monk an entire equipment slot unavailable to males, which allow you to focus on one of the major shortcomings of the Monk: survivability. This is probably the only physical damage job I'd recommend for a female over a male because of the extra headgear options.

Now think about what I'm saying:

A) Normal jobs have headgear options that INCLUDE female options but
B) Female Monks have access to headgear options Period
C) Dual weilding Monk will almost always break the 999 HP cap for every living (non boss) enemy, with or without the physical attack boosts

There is 0 reason not to exploit the equipment options when Dual wielding a Monk as a female. Increasing the survivability as a female and exploiting the healing options in Martial Arts make female Monks DAMN NEAR the best healers in the game, on top of removing the fragility that using White Mage involves (whole separate headache).

Long story short...if you want a dual wield end game Monk, you should pick a girl.
