Monks and ninjas were and still are awesome. I love them both so neither is better than the other for me 😁

I gave monk the geomancer ability and worked great. Geomancer is based on strength so did good damage at far distance with status ailments. Was also not effected by height much or obstacles.

Dual Wield is more popular, but I firmly believe to maximize Monk is to equip Geomancer's Attack Up. It boosts all the Attacks in Punch Arts and also Chakra.

Wave Fist and Earth Slash can even rival Throw with Attack Up. And because of Attack Up's nature it adds more bonus PA the higher your natural PA is.

Even Ninja's with Attack Up would be more versatile. Since you can equip and boost Ninja Swords/Knives and also boost Punch Arts. Attack Up even boosts Steal commands Rate %. Throw would also be boosted since PA is in their equation.

Geomancer's Attack Up is probably the most useful AND underrated Support Ability.

I’d argue the Ninja with Brawler and Martial Arts as a secondary is superior. They have more movement tiles naturally, same jump, higher speed stat (very important!!) and their can be boosted by +7 with a Twisted Headband / Power Sleeve / Bracer, whereas a Monk gets only +5.
They’re both incredibly good jobs, but objectively the Ninja is just slightly better because of the movement / speed / head gear 😅

I was never a fan of the monk myself. But they do have some great skills for a secondary job. The speed and attacks of ninjas, as well as the option of throwing useless weapons away if you didn't need the money was always what got me sold on the ninjas besides the appearance. Nothing is more fun then stealing an enemies weapon, only to throw it back at them lol

Monk with Dancer as secondary was great so that the first round while you’re getting closer to enemies you debuff them.

Bard would probably be good with the speed song but I don’t remember if you need the instrument equipped to make it work

Okay but that thumbnail tho! <3

Love both jobs, but I think I like Monk slightly better since you get it faster. Unlocking NInja is such a pain!

I played this game when I was young and I’ve played it a few times through as an adult. Your videos make me feel dumb in all the right ways. 😅

Monk definitely, wins. Ninja has great movement but when it comes down to overall versatility, Monk has saved my runs more times than any ninja

Even at 97 bravery, would a brawling ninja be better than two moonsilk blades?

I've used Duel Wield Monks several times, but never tried the Brawler Ninja. I'll give it a go in my next run, thanks!

If I go with Ninja Brawler, at what point is wielding 2 weapons better than unarmed?

A lesser discussed early game Monk build that I have messed around with is having Geomancy as a second job and then equipping Arcane Power and Counter Geomancy. The only benefit that Monk itself gets from Arcane Power is Doom Fist having an increased chance to hit. This could be potent early game in some difficult fights. But this is ultimately moot if you grind enough to get Ninja.

is Brawler a PSP or whatever version you are playing on exclusive or is it equivalent to Knight on PS1 version? I only played PS1 extensively and maybe Gameboy one in less than 15 mins

This is my favorite combo. And I've had this debate internally lol

Dual Wield Monk is my go to. I often go with Mana Shield for his reaction command since he's not using that MP for anything anyway

What would you say the best platform/version is to play FFT? I've seen there are Mods for the original FFT on PSX as well, would you recommend those?

Before they got PC-antsy, the boys at Newgrounds had this hard audio techno rap track by "misterscoops" called "Ninjas in a Spaceship" where it goes,

And every time I listen to it, I grin ear to ear and imagine an animated machinima short where male Ninjas descend from a UFO and start chasing a male Monk around onscreen.

The track has been taken down, though I assume misterscoops himself has the original backed up on a hard drive or personal site--kind of racy beginning, see. Still, I imagined just that song as you compared Ninjas and Monks. I would opt for Monks any day of the week because helms and hats can't seal the deal against someone who can chakra his way while fucking your face up and to throw a weapon is to require a weapon.

I enjoy more ninja with brawler because of it's bigger speed and evasion stats, now imagine high bravery plus shirahadori, you get an almost invincible Hermes punching enemies to death lol
Let's not forget speed is essential for broken builds like math skills for example ( even tho it is lame)

Monks are nice as a budget choice because you never really upgrade their gear. When you get to a new area with lots of armored characters, and each costs you so much to get the latest gear for - pain.

My go-to for early setups is equip shield monk. It's strong enough and defensive. You usually have enough knight points for it without effort.

Then switch into ninja with brawler to get a high damage build going.

I really wish thieves were more useful. The remixed version is adding extra damage to gil stealing, which does weapon damage with the support ability, when attacking from behind.
