This video was made using the research for the Holy Roman Empire video, which is still in production. As such it only goes up to founding the Austrian Empire in 1804. There are also some minor omissions in areas that haven't been fully researched yet.

Even though the video is short, you can easily tell that many hours of research went into this video.

What you and your community are doing is absolutely insane. You'll probably be the first one ever to accurately map the full history of the HRE! I can't wait for the full video! ❤️

Crazy how the Habsburgs got their start in an area completely different from where they are mainly associated with

In fact, Prince Ferdinand Habsburg is also an Austrian racing driver.

I think it is a mistake that all mappers portray the declaration of the Austrian Empire as instantly superseding all the other Habsburg kingdoms in 1804. In reality it was a largely symbolic gesture and the duchies and kingdoms retained autonomy, particularly Hungary. In fact, Hungary had more autonomy than it would later have after the Austro-Hungarian compromise, and this lasted until the Revolutions of 1848 which is when Austria actually became centralised.

The story of one of the greatest Houses in world history! Amazing job!

Edit: also, will you add in a map of the Habsburg's Spanish Empire? I think it is important to depict just how vast their domains were.

The amount of work that went into this is beyond amazing...

Incredible video! Loved how thorough and detailed everything was, and that transition at 1437 was really well made.

Best mapper on YouTube. Can't wait for the HRE video. Would also be interesting to have a follow up video on the German Confederation, German Empire + Austria-Hungary, then the modern history of Germany and Austria from there as the descendants of the HRE.

In regal halls, their banners unfurled,
The Habsburgs ruled, their power swirled.
From Vienna's grandeur to Spain's embrace,
Their empire spanned with sovereign grace.

Through centuries, their dynasty reigned,
In history's annals, their name ingrained.
From Alpine peaks to Danube's flow,
Their influence spread, a timeless glow.

Yet beneath the crown, whispers abound,
Of intrigue, ambition, and plots unwound.
For power grasped can swiftly fade,
In the tumult of time's relentless parade.

I'm a bit dissapointed to not see the Spanish Empire included, but it's easy to understand why it was excluded

I salute you for this research. As someone who also had to do research on HRE, I know that this is not easy.

Transylvania and Banat were managed separately from Hungary. "Union with Transylvania" was one of the demands of Hungarian revolutionaries in 1848 precisely because the principality of Transylvania was treated as a separate realm.

Funny to remember that this family who ruled a large part of Europe, had its first territories in the "today Switzerland".
Thanks for that great video
