I believe I heard Karl von Habsburg, the grandson of the last Emperor, saying how if he was offered that role by the people, he would SERVE them and do his duty. I think this is such a reasonable and simply genius reply to obnoxious journalists who ask these questions over and over again to provoke a bad reaction from them. This way, he made clear that he would not let his people down, if they wanted his help, otherwise he would not try to get the position by force etc.

I am a Croatian monarchist, but it is as Charles said here: If we are to have a king, we must ask ourselves, are we a kingly people? Right now, Croatia certainly isn't. The Republic has excluded the word "God" from it's consitution, even though throughout our history, our closeness to the Catholic Church, to the monarchy and to God were very strong and evident, even in our constitutions. Except in the communist one from 1945-1991 and the current one. Makes you wonder. We have allowed abortion, we have degenerated as a society beyond belief, we have lost faith, we have an illusion that we are in charge by casting a vote, even though it's always the same people elected again and again, in the last decade, half a million of us left the country, who knows if their children, or their grandchildren, born in Germany, Norway, Canada, Australia will ever come back or even speak the language or even see themselves as Croats?

Not that our elected government cares. They have provided for their own. The more of us leave, the more land the government and foreign corporations can buy up.
