Meet the House of Habsburg

This video is filled with simplifications and generalizations. It should be regarded as a brief introduction to the vast subject that is the history of the Habsburg dynasty.

The Habsburg dynasty is arguably the most influential of the european royal houses. Vast empires from the danube stretching even to the Americas, whole countries named after their figureheads, such as the Philippines, patronage of artists such as Diego Velázquez and Mozart, all of this are testaments of the mark left by the House of Habsburg on the modern history of our planet.
This video will cover (almost) the entire history of the Habsburgs as kings and emperors of Europe, from their rise as local nobles from Switzerland to their downfall in World War 1, in an oversimplified manner like a casual approach to this vast subject in an animated style.
I hope you enjoy it!

wow this video really took something of 6 months to complete sorry for the delay :)

Fun facts about Otto Von Habsburg.

He spoke German, Hungarian, Croatian, English, French, Spanish, Latin fluently as his mother taught him to as she believed that one day he would rule over many lands.

He lived much of his childhood in Spain.

Otto was a staunch opponent of Naziasm, communism, and nationalism and opposed the Anschluss. Because of this he was even sentenced to death by the Nazis for opposing them.

He went into exile in the United States and he helped over 15.000 Austrians including thousands of Austrian Jewish people flee Nazi occupied Austria thus likely saving thousands of lives.

He lived to the ripe old age of 98 years old dying in 2011 at 98 years old.

The influence of bill wurtz is noticeable, and I actually like that.

I'm glad someone is developing this kind of story telling style mixing crazy pictures, hilarious script and enjoyable plot.

Keep up the good work!

Fun facts:
Franz Grillparzer, a famous Austrian dramatist, wrote a play about the defeat of Ottakar by Rudolph I called Ottakars Glück und Ende
(Ottakar's Fortune and End) telling the story of the birth of the House of Habsburg. Which made a sweet gift to the current Hapsburg Emperor Francis II.

Also, Austria's productive use of marriage to increase the Hapsburg lands inspired a saying: "Bella gerant alii, tu felix Austria nube." 'Let others wage war: you, happy Austria, marry.'

The last ruler of Austria Hungary lies in a church on Madeira Island, Portugal. I visited his tomb multiple times. Such a modest end for one of the most influencial dinasties in human history. I felt i was watching history with my own eyes.

To be honest, I've fought shy of studying the Habsburgs, as they seemed too complicated (not to mention their 'close relationships' to one another)). But you've laid them out brilliantly and clearly, nice piece of work. Love your style, and look forward to seeing more (college work permitting). Thanks.

Very entertaining with real funny animations! Just one detail, the 1640 crisis in Spain originated because Olivares wanted ALL territories to contribute with men and money to the war. Not only the Spanish territories (Castile, Aragón, etc.), also Portugal, Naples, Sicily, the Duchy of Milan, the Spanish Lowlands, the American territories, etc. This "Union of Arms" would've resulted in a significantly strong army and with sufficient resources, to defy the growing power of Louis XIV of France.

The Austrians actually abolished all royal titles after the first world war so technically speaking the family isn't "of Habsburg" but just "Habsburg" today.

I love this editing style. It’s like if Sam O’ Nella and bill wurtz had a baby. And it’s a masterpiece.

Also, during the Reforma war in Mexico, one of the factions tried to create an empire and invited Maximilian of Habsburg to be the emperor of Mexico. But he lost the war and was executed.
