It's too open-ended for me mostly because i wanted an explanation of what was going on with the iss in the story but I can assume they were going for realism in that kind of scenario and I'm too much of a fiction junkie to like it XD

We absolutely need like a presence in space anything like monitoring as far as we can in our own solar system even further if possible. For any kind of you know objects entering our solar system, and if they were to move it to like a moon base sort of thing instead so it can be more permanent okay, but we definitely need something and some kind of space stations that are more permanent. That are planetary defense systems of some sort pretty much like burying your head in the sand at this point in the human race to assume that we are the only sentient species out there, and that maybe one of those people might have figured out technology to travel the distance between us and they might not be friendly and if they are friendly the technology could cause a serious problems here.

Well I’d say at first of course there’s a reason they want to destroy it. The story should be, why?? And looking into it after finding out about everyone else’s misfortune isn’t what I’d expect from a NASA employee..they’re usually smart people.
