I feel so bad for Tua. I have had lots of concussions (I'm tall, clumsy, and have very little peripheral vision) I always took a very lackadaisical approach and mindset because I always recovered within a few weeks and didn't have lasting issues. . . Until I did. I received a severe concussion about 6 months ago and am still recovering. I'm working with a neurologist who has informed me that I will never recover 100% I've done 2 MRIs and they have found significant damage. The areas I'm seeing the biggest problems are memory, word recall, brain fog, and mood instability. I really hope someone sits Tua down and helps him understand the importance of protecting his head. People tried to do that with me, but I wouldn't listen. It's unfortunate that I ended up with permanent brain damage to make me recognize the severity of concussions.

He always falls in a way that results in his head taking all the impact. Never braces for it, just let's it happen. Hands were always to his side and always landing on his back letting his head slam off the turf. Been doing that since he played at bama.

I hope for his safety he realizes what’s at stake. Who knows, if he takes another bad shot this season, the next one could be career ending.

If I was him I would think long and hard about straight up retirement. Luke Kuechly retired after having 3 in a year. We have seen the long term effects of repeated injuries to the head.

Some people just fall in the worst way possible and Tua seems to always find a way to have his head smack hard first

It still scares me that he dolphins refuse to recognize the first concussion

I know only being in his 3rd year and being 24 makes it hard to think you should hang it up but it should be in consideration at the very least. Unfortunately around that age you feel invincible, especially when you're an athlete with money. I just hope that Tua is mature enough to make a decision that hopefully he won't regret. Get well!

That ATM withdrawal an unknown account balance amount is a great analogy. It seems there is a variance from person to person. Some brains may recover better from it than others.

There needs to be more long-term study on this in sports medicine

I honestly still can’t believe they are playing stupid about the first concussion. They fired someone over it right?

Sad for tua just wanted him to continue proving the haters and doubters wrong but if he can’t play his health is most important. Hopefully everything works out

1) he lands the same way each time on the back of his head 😢
2) Wes is on the staff so should (hopefully will) voice his opinion to help Tua
3) I hope Tua advocates for himself and stays safe (as he can)

I’ve heard there’s an “unofficial rule” by doctors that says 3 concussions and you gotta retire. That’s what happened to Wes Welker

I’ve noticed more of those helmet to turf concussions this year than ever. It’s insane to see it so frequently. Maybe they should bring back the neck guard or something, something that protrudes up from the back of the shoulderpads so that when the back of the helmet hits the ground there is some kind of padding there. I’m not sure why it’s become so prevalent this season though. Maybe it’s always been this common and it seems to be happening more because there’s a larger spotlight on concussion protocol and safety?

The hell with Dr. Mike, Dr. Sutterer brings more valuable information explained in a more digestible and respectable tone and manner. Subscribed

This reminds me of Jordan Reed. He had 7 concussions total in his college and nfl career, and 4 of those were in the nfl. His last concussion put him in protocol for 5+ months, where he retired shortly after being cleared. Usually 4 “diagnosed” concussions in a high-school Or collegiate career is enough to force someone to retire early. Very curious where this situation will lead. As an Athletic training student, typically we’d treat this as his “third” concussion and therefore hold him out for rest of season. His return to play process would also be drawn out for longer and he’d ofc have to be cleared by a doctor.

Wes Welker is the Dolphins Wide Receivers coach. I wonder if he’s spoken to Tua.

I took two concussive blows within 1 hour then took 1 more the next day because I had delayed symptoms. Now 29 months later I still feel it every day

I remember seeing the play even though there wasn't much emphasis on him slamming his head on the turf. My thinking is he's suffered way too much trauma in such a short time. I'm more concerned about his heath after football than if he plays football ever again. I know a football player wants to play football but I also hope that he has the support system that is just concerned for his health as I am.

Crazy! Reminds me of TJ Grant, mma fighter who was training for a title fight in 2013, got concussed in training and had symptoms and long term effects that forced him to retire.. never saw the cage again.

Earlier this year when he had his hands all jacked from that concussion I said it’s time for him to retire. I still feel the same way. This young man is playing with fire right now and has already had a 1st and now 2nd degree burn. Why wait for the 3rd degree
