Tesla has been sued for their autopilot turning off before crashes to avoid liability.

It's not a mistake. Tesla has admitted that they turn off that self driving right before impact.

Regardless of technology, I'm never leaving my life in the hands of AI/machine, I'll do my own driving lol

Even if Autopilot was turned off before the crash, there wasn't enough time between it disengaging and when he hit the wall.

I think a disclaimer you should mention is that Alex Finn is a Tesla fanboy. Him calling out Mark Rober for shilling for Google Pixel is the pot calling the kettle black because I think he is mainly doing this to defend Tesla.

7:50 The precut wall makes perfect sense, IMO. If you're testing if the wall will be detected and you don't want to damage the car you're using, you precut the wall. If you don't hit the wall, it doesn't matter, if you do hit it the wall the car and wall supports aren't as likely to be damaged.

To me, it's a non-issue people are making a big deal out of, like if people complained about them not using a real person instead of a mannequin.

Tesla's stock being down has little or nothing to do with a Mark Rober video.

I think if you trust any auto driving car, then you are eligible for the Darwin awards.

Pretty sure the Tesla stock drop isn't really resulting from this issue. They got bigger issues right now and no one wants too be holding the bag.

It's by design. Tesla turns off autopilot right before a crash so they can claim it was driver error. It's been known for a long time

it's been proven that their auto pilot is programed to turn off if it detects an incoming accident. this has been a controversy for a few years now

I don't see anything wrong in that video. The over reliance on camera only as sensors has cause other problems to appear as well.

For example motorcycles with 2 backlights. Since bikes are narrow, those two lights are also very close to each other. What teslas however see those lights as is: It thinks it's a car that's far away in the front. Accidents already happened with that cause.

They removed all other sensors in Teslas to save money. Promising full self driving capabilities with only camera sensors is wild. Especially considering object recognition is based on probability.

Rober has shown the raw unedited video. He starts to drive then turns on autodrive, and it is the car that turns it off .02 sec from impact. Tesla coded it to do that to limit the data on how bad their autodrive is.

Hi Atozy, Just as an FYI it is irrelevant what mode the Tesla was in. Emergency braking is a basic function that will work in ALL drive modes unless you manually disable it, for instance because of a fault, but even then the EAB may still activate if it believes a collision is imminent or already happened. So, again, the version, autopilot, FSD, R2D2, your aunt Jane driving etc doesn't matter one bit. Unless Mark Rober hit the accelerator overriding the brake or willfully disabled the EAB then the Tesla should have braked. This is the case for all assistive technology systems btw. not just Tesla, Emergency braking is supposed to always work because you don't really know when an emergency happens otherwise you'd probably avoid it. My car often activated EAB and it is not a Tesla. Lastly, it is well known that Tesla's driver assistance systems are in many metrics behind the competition while in many others far ahead of the competition. The over-reliance on purely visual systems is definitely an achilles heel and whether these were contrived examples or not is besides the point. The basic premise of the video is whether or not there are situations in which Tesla's cameras may misinterpret the situation because their fidelity and signal processing aren't good enough for a vision only system and the answer seems to be yes. There are other tests on youtube and by automotive journalism outlets that show similar issues and there are plenty of recorded instances of phantom braking, also a malfunction of Tesla's system, albeit in the reverse. Hope this helps. Keep up the good work.

Something to note here, ALL cars that have forward collision detection systems SHOULD activate automatically even during times the driver is engaged and "driving".

(my Hyundai will apply the brakes and come to a stop, even if I'm on the accelerator, etc)

So Tesla should be expected to do the same, even if a car isn't in FSD. Tesla themselves call this feature Automatic Emergency Braking.

0:50 you are incorrect here. Autopilot is still current technology that is included free with every Tesla. FSD is the $8, 000+ upgrade you can buy or rent. Yes, FSD offers more features and may be better in this situation. However, Autopilot is what the vast majority of people will be using today because FSD is so ridiculously expensive. Autopilot needs to be able to pass this test. Other manufacturers offer a similar system at this price point and theirs would pass this test.

To point out Tesla stocks dropping and saying its anything to do with a youtube video discredits this whole thing to me

They precut the wall so it would look like a cartoon hole if one hit it. Criticizing that is dumb. They obviously did multiple takes and refilled the wall.

Remember that guy who went viral for loving tesla and doing his own experiments with his car. He ended up passing away in a car wreck by trusting the self driving

"That's not self driving, that's auto pilot"
So, which part of that invalidates the car failing to stop? Especially given a Auto Pilot is a synonym for Self Driving
