While Gobekli Tepe is one of the most important archaeological sites in history, it was once farmland, and olive groves were planted by the previous owners to supposedly increase the land’s value before selling it. This video explores the story of Gobekli Tepe’s transformation, how it came into the spotlight, and what its ancient mysteries mean to us today. There are 2000 year old olive trees at the Pont du Gard Roman ruins in France supposedly grown from pits that were spit out during its construction, by the workers that built the aquaduct .

From what I've seen the entire site had be purposely buried under tons of dirt thousands of years ago. How would the farmers have known what was under the dirt? If you owned a dirt lot, planting trees that could yield a crop and make money just makes sense... doesn't it?

Ancient ruins are always destroyed by the usual suspects. Who controls the past controls the future!

In 1930 the army corps of engineers dumped tons of invasive species seeds over the entire island of Kauai Hawaii. It's currently destroying the ruins here. Plan succeeded.

Who would pay for it? You’d need a buyer. YouTube archeologists aren’t going to foot the bill.

Even if the ruins were known. As a farmer you plant olives so that the government has to pay you more compensation.

Let's face it. You ain't ever getting the value of the historic thing when the government takes your land. They'll just pay the value of the farm

It amazes me how they're able to desecrate the site in the first place

But also it is illegal to remove olive trees in that country

The law over there says if an olive tree orchard is on the land, it's worth something like 20% more. They planted them knowing that in the future, it'll be worth selling

The trees will destroy what's underneath
