This is such a good puzzle. I remember first learning it when I I started watching Scam School nearly 7 years ago. It is my favorite puzzle and never fails to get me a free drink. :-)

It probably would've taken me a long while to solve that but once the guy asked if the coin could be left separated like that, it became quite easy. It's a shame he gave up after figuring out the biggest part of the puzzle.

Oh my god I was literally thinking that. Because of the rule that you must touch at least 2 other coins with the coin you moved I figured out the whole thing entirely.

I love this gag, been doing it for years. A really nice little presentation detail is after you've won your first drink, show them move by move very slowly, then put the coins back together but ninety degrees off from the way you just showed them, this will make them start with the wrong coin and win you another beer ;^>

by the way, this trick got me a free tiramisu.

I was showing my friends and the server walked up and asked what I was doing. I explained the rules, and he went to try it in the staging area. he came back and said that not only was he stumped, but the manager, chefs, bartender, and waitstaff couldn't figure it out, and the manager said on his way out to give me a dessert of my choice :D

Took me a minute, but I solved it. Same four moves,

depending on how you define a move, I can do it in 2 moves, or even 1. 1) move one of the 2 short diagonal of the diamond so it touches the other short diagonal quarter and one of the long diagonal quarters. It will be in a line with the other short diagonal quarter and the final long diagonal quarter. Next, move the one quarter onto the end of the line on either side, but don't let go. you've moved 2 quarters without disobeying the rules, but since you haven't finished the second move, you could claim you've only made 1 move. Then proceed to leave your finger there for the rest of the day to prove a point: that you are a stubborn wisecrack.
