I'm also self taught started Marcs ART school for digital artists and I've improved SO MUCH in a few months. Before that I was also just watching youtube videos. Having a bit of structure is what really helped me. Thanks Marc :)

I'm a self-taught artist and I have been following your yt tutorials religiously (no surprise I leave so many comments). Your techniques and brushes have helped me grow so much. Thank you, sensei!

Y’all are living in the golden age of self teaching. I started self teaching (and taking a few courses at my community college) in 2000 and the amount of resources and courses available now is insane.

Honestly the hardest thing at this point is sifting through all of the stuff available

What's with the passive-aggressive or direct hate in the comments? He's a good teacher. There's nothing wrong with valuing your work/experience. If the difference between the dollar and my country's currency wasn't so big I would buy his curse considering how much my art got better with only following quick 10min videos. Love the lineart + shading videos, they helped me a lot. Yoji Shinkawa, Junji Ito and Marc Brunet form the trinity of artists I aspire to achieve.

My reason for wanting to learn how to draw is just because I see so much beautiful art online and I want to get better so I can appreciate there art even more

Self taught artist here, listen to this man, he speaks truth

Sooo gotta treat it like a fighting game. Finding your character, learnning the moves then a few combos. Play against actual players, win/lose (losing is very important to learn and to get good). Seek different approach, learn new things, decompile them into smaller bits for easier learning and then get outside of your comfort zone. Noted!

As a self-taught artist, I can't thank you enough for the online community. I felt bad earlier because I couldn't go to the art department but after I saw many students' enthusiasm and passion got destroyed by our local education system maybe my path is not bad at all, let alone the professionals that I met in real life became good not really from college but because they spent countless hours practicing and exploring themselves

I've always liked how you don't teach just the techniques but also the psychology of setting long-term goals. The whole "visualization before going to bed" is more powerful than most people know.

I'm a struggling self taught artist, I'm 38 & been drawing most my life but I really don't have much to show for it since I rarely took it seriously. I did take art classes for a bit but that was almost 20 years ago. It's been hard the past few years to really buckle down & draw but I've been trying my best to get into it, I've been behind on your videos but they're certainly helping.

I have started taking art seriously again last year, With following your tutorials(and a couple other goated art youtubers) I have improved so much, That now I'm redrawing an art piece from last year and the difference is insane, in just 1 year!! Thank you so much for all the tutorials.

Marc, can you please make a video about transitioning from traditional to digital drawing? How to get used to the tablet faster, what exercises are the best for it, etc.

What I also find extremely important is to not only focus on goal-driven studies, but also optimise for fun/curiosity. When only doing goal driven studies, they'll become a chore really quickly, and it's easy to burn out on them. There's exercise/study/practice and there's execution. Matching these up was crucial for me to sketch/draw consistently. ie when I enjoyed drawing flowers/petals/organic things in general, I studied things that were applicable but also as small as possible. Example: Enjoy drawing portraits? Study the skull.

I've heard many times that those who study on their own are not real artists, people laugh and call them non-professionals, but they forget that these people's desire to create was so great that they achieved or are achieving good results RIGHT NOW! They deal with it using all possible ways to learn. They learn, and it takes not only desire, but also great willpower and self-discipline.
Thank you, Marc, thank you for talking about such useful things and, of course, for the tips and useful videos that you post!

The sleeping part opened my eyes more because I imagine stuff that I am farrr from doing because I'm not that great at art I mean I was improving a lott by the age of 13 - 14 but it stopped because other stuff got in my way I've only recently gotten back into art but never been trying to improve.. Watching these videos from you and others have been helping me a lot lately

If you want to make comics or manga, for sure you don't need art school, if you are trying to do something else like classical painting, sculpture or stamp a banana in drywall you 100% need art school
