Im in this exact position. Minus being a millionaire, of course. Healing while your parent is still "around" is underrated. Its HARD

Brett is one of the best people to comment and understand that (because of her dad).

I didn't wish my parents or my evil brother "unalived" but, it was easier to deal with when I knew they couldn't hurt me anymore. It may sound morbid, but, I checked the obituaries occasionally to see if my almost 80 year old brother is there. I recently checked my credit and his cars and address is all over it. At 69 I won't feel safe until he's gone.

So much respect for that statement as I deal with my aging parents with whom I have fraught relationships and am now becoming their caregiver

What she says makes sense especially with such a traumatic abusive past with her mother.

I understand completely. I couldn't move back to my home state until after my mom passed. I loved her and visited her, but I couldn't cope with being around her for long periods of time.

Remember, she was once the youngest host of SNL? This means she partied with some of the best in those days where the booze and coke flowed freely.

In your mind you think when they die the pain will end but it doesn't work that way. Nobody want their parents dead, abused people just want the bad things to end.

I am not ashamed to admit that I have told my brother that I look forward to the day our father dies. Its not that I want him to die or that I want something to occur to speed up that day.
I just want to be able to move on from that period of my life but thats very difficult to do whilst he is still here constantly reminding us that he does not want anything to do with us.
I can completely understand where Drew Barrymore is coming from here.

That's why Drew Barrymore was like one of the only successful children to divorce her parents... I kind of feel bad for her they were fucked up. Fun fact I think she's Steven Spielberg's niece or something like that that's one of the reasons she was in ET

Both my Parents abused me when I was a child, by today’s standards. But I didn’t have anyone telling me I was traumatized. So I just kept on loving my parents. And just took it as chastisement. Honor your father and mother. Because the devil will do anything to compromise your walk in life. Stay Awesome!

I remember her interview with the author of "I'm glad my mom died" and how she said she still works on being able to criticize her mom.

I’m just saying…I had a father that ignored, abused and neglected me. He did provide food, shelter and such. I had a hard time forgiving him while he was still alive because he did the same things over and over. Minus the physical abuse. It took me years to come to terms with him. But through the power of God, I am able to speak of him with love in my heart. To know he was the way he was because of his childhood. I forgive you dad.
So don’t be too harsh on this woman. It’s tough.
