My TSH was 5.2 in 5/21. My D.O. wrote me a script for Synthroid. I retested 10/21 and TSH was 3.8. Doc said “your thyroid is better from Synthroid!” Little did she know I never filled the script. She was pushing Lipitor on me even harder so I found a new doctor. There you have it! Thanks Dr. Ruscio for all you do for us. Even though we’re not your patients per se, we really are in a way. Your podcasts/videos are appreciated and very useful. Thank you!

The problem with these TSH lab ranges is that they are mostly as the result of testing people that are being treated for a thyroid problem already, so what's the normal number for the bulk of the population that doesn't have a thyroid problem?

Thank you doctor, I have been taking medication for 25 years I am now 74. In the last four years I have been experiencing aching all over my body. I have always been very active and exercise every day eat healthy and in the last year i have added zinc and selenium to my diet and my TSH was 0.98, my T3 3.6, my T4 19 all seem to be normal according to what you said. You are right when you say most of us are taking medication when we shouldn't. It could be why I am having high cholesterol and all the aching. Thank for your video you have helped many.

The TSH is mostly a marker for pituitary function. The Free T3 level is what you want to watch to assess thyroid functioning. Optimal levels are between 3-4 pg/mL

I've been on synthroid for years. I've always heard once you start you can't stop. Is that true. Thanks for the truth

I am 27 M. I got to know that males below 30 should have less than 2 TSH. My TSH level is 4.56 and I am not losing weight even after 2.5 months of rigorous gym and diet.

my TSH has been tested 4 or 5 times in the last year. 3 of those times it's been over 4.5. I had all the symptoms and blamed it on menopause. Started a very low dose of levo. It's been a week and I already feel better in my energy level. My dr was hesitant on putting me on meds but I knew something was not right and wanted to see if I felt better with this since there is now a pattern. I was listening to see if you mentioned a pattern of test results as an example of when it's a good idea to treat.

How important is to look at all the values in a complete thyroid panel and not only TSH?

Significant fasting with low carb diets raises tsh in mornings but family med physicians don't comprehend this

What do we do if we aren’t able to tolerate even small doses of t3? I am in the subclinical range (last tsh was nearly 6) but I do have bad hair loss, exercise intolerance, dry skin/ hair, etc. wondering if trialing tirosint would be helpful in a small dose but am worried since the t3 gave me bad palpitations/ anxiety and muscle twitching. Thanks!

Mine went in 6 months from 0.84 to 25. My TPO ( Thyroid peroxidase autoantibody) was greater than 2000 and my Thyroglobulin auto antibodies was 640 I was put onto 75 mg and it came back to normal. Then my new internal doc dropped it down to 37.5 as this was safer for my bones. I have had years of osteopenia as I went through menopause in my early 40’s. Now osteoporosis in my late 70’s. It’s always something. And several fractures do to “ soft bones “ my orthopedic surgeon said. Take calcium complex with D and K2 and magnesium and phosphorus balance.

My TSH was 52.2. I am currently taking 30 mg of desiccated thyroid hormone; I have been on this new meds for Three months. Before this I was on synthroid. The question I have is how many mg should I be taking. My test came back that I was out of range. I have no family Doctor currently, mine moved away. I can not get another Doctor to adjust my dose. I heard that I should increase the mg by 15 at a time.

We know most doctors are overworked and aren't updated with research studies. So why haven't the TSH guideline for pregnancy been raised to 4.5mIU/L when numerous studies suggest it's normal? Labs are still showing under the 2011 guideline <2.5mIU/L. This causes a lot of stress and misdiagnosis for patients especially in the gray area.

Thank you for the valuable information.
