It’s normal for doctors to order blood tests to check thyroid health, says endocrinologist Yaroslav Gofnung, MD. A common test checks thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). Originating from the pituitary gland, TSH tells your body to make the thyroid hormone.

If a test shows your TSH value is too high, it usually indicates hypothyroidism. This means the body isn’t producing enough of the thyroid hormone or you’re taking too little thyroid hormone medication. On the other hand, a low TSH value often indicates hyperthyroidism — when the body produces too much thyroid hormone.

A normal TSH value usually means the thyroid is functioning as it should.

Ican't get in to see an endocrinologist until late June! My Dr doesn't seem to know much abut the thyroid! 2 months ago my thyroid reading was 8.75 which Dr says is low. started taking generic synthroid and today the reading was 1.47. Is that a normal reading! Hair falling out and have dry skin. Crrly cruly hair on one side of my hair and straight. How long does it take for hair to be normal again!
