Supernovas are the dramatic death of giant stars. Their explosions outshine all the stars in a galaxy, and the last minutes of their life are the most energetic and the most cataclysmic events that we see in the universe.

For all we know, it already went supernova roughly 600–700 years ago. We just haven't seen it happen yet. That's amazing.

It's estimated that Betelgeuse is about 700 light years from Earth. It takes 700 years for light from Betelgeuse to reach us. If we're gonna witness this in our life time, it had to have already exploded 700 years ago.

"From the day it's born, until the day of its death, a stars life is a constant battle."

Yeah, same 😔

Betelgeuse is 642.5 light years away, which is a relatively short distance in comparison to the 100, 000 light year diameter of our galaxy. However, even if Betelgeuse went supernova 400 years ago, we still wouldn’t see it happen for another 242.5 years. The lifespan of humans and the distances we’ve traveled are incredibly small compared to the rest of the universe.

I laughed my ass off at 3:12, then had to go to the comments to see how many others also enjoyed that unexpected explanation. I was not disappointed.

What is also interesting is that several elements needed for life, such as nickel, zinc, and iodine are only produced during the final explosion of the supernova. So, billions of years ago, a supernova occurred near the current location of the Sun, and a substantial part of our bodies use those supernova elements. And every element on earth higher than iron (26) is also supernova "ash". Keep that in mind the next time you see something made of gold.

I like how, all these years later, the science channel still uses the same background music from Command and Conquer 3 in their shows and videos. Lol I wholeheartedly love it. Great memories of a great game.
