WHY IS THE INTERVIEWER IS ASKING YOU THE QUESTION, WHAT’S YOUR LEADERSHIP STYLE?
This question always gets asked during management and leadership interviews because the employer wants to know whether or not your leadership style is going to be suited to the team you are going to be leading, and their organization as a whole.

For example, if their organization is dynamic and forward-thinking but your leadership style is LAISSEZ-FAIRE (i.e. laid back) they won’t hire you!

Let me now tell you the 7 different leadership styles and you can decide which one is most suited to you. Tell me in the comments section below which leadership style you have.

LEADERSHIP STYLE #1. Autocratic. 01:58
An autocratic style of leadership is one where the leader controls all the decisions and takes little or no input from team members. This style of leadership is often used in the military and the emergency services such as the Fire Service or Police. Sometimes, this style of leadership is referred to as AUTHORITARIAN.

LEADERSHIP STYLE #2. Affiliative. 02:25
Affiliative leaders encourage their teams to work in harmony. They seek to quickly solve conflict and they will promote a happy and positive working environment. Affiliative leadership is great in organizations where team members have to work very closely together and support each other to complete tasks.

LEADERSHIP STYLE #3. Coaching. 02:52
A coaching leadership style is one that encourages people to continually improve and, ultimately, reach peak performance. Often, a coaching style of leadership will work on mindset and team behaviors, and they are well suited to organizations where a culture of empowerment and fulfillment are the priority.

LEADERSHIP STYLE #4. Democratic. 03:21
A democratic leadership style is one that encourages team members to become actively involved in the decision-making process. A democratic leader will often ask their team members for their opinions before making decisions.

LEADERSHIP STYLE #5. Laissez-Faire. 03:40
A laissez-faire leadership style is one that allows team members to get on with tasks with little supervision or monitoring. A laissez-faire style leader places full trust in his or her team members and they only get involved when absolutely necessary.

LEADERSHIP STYLE #6. Pacesetting. 04:02
A pacesetting leader value results more than anything else! They set the pace and they expect people to follow. This leadership style can be often found in high-pressure work environments where managers and leaders are expected to achieve difficult targets.

LEADERSHIP STYLE #7. Transformational. 04:28
Transformational leaders inspire people and they encourage their teams to embrace changes that often allow the organization to maintain its position as a market leader. Transformational leaders are usually energetic people who are driven to succeed.

After getting my PhD recently I was really struggling to find a new job (you might think it's surprising but I was unemployed for 8 months!). Although I was offered interviews at most of the companies I applied to, I couldn't get through any of them because I was having problems with the interview technique.
