Grant, sorry to hear about your engine issue. Keeping my fingers crossed that it's just the water pump

😭😭 Hoping its the pump. Good Luck. Good to hear the tranny issues "appear" to be behind you now, and it's shifting properly.

Well that escalated quickly. That really sucks but if you do have to tear into it at least you'll be familiar with it and maybe you'll find or change some things to make the end result even better.

I could definitely see how those spring clamps could be causing issues especially if you were running low on fluid or there was some air. Hopefully the transmission issues are solved. It looks like you have good gaps between your condenser, trans cooler, and radiator up front. I was wondering about that when you were talking about it being a tight squeeze because you want a little gap between each cooler. I highly doubt you will have any transmission cooling issues and if you did I would double check the plumbing.
Something I would look at if your having issues is I would look into that blue silicone hose. If that silicone hose is really squishy it may be collapsing under vacuum or suction on your power steering and possibly even the transmission I've never seen anyone use that type of hose for transmission cooler lines but I have seen it used on power steering feed and I have seen it collapse under suction when used on power steering feed. I think what would worry me most on the transmission is if that hose isn't reinforced with some sort of string or fiber running through it. I really can't tell exactly what type of hose it is but I thought I'd bring it up just in case.

Guestimation tribulations. I hope you don't have a cracked head. Does it keep pushing coolant out?

Ive never seen so many issues with this motor or any vw tdis. Must be something else, than just overheating, let us know. Very unlucky man..
