Our tenants refrigerator is on the fritz. Freezer is not freezing, refrigerator is around 45. On older fridges, it would always just be an evaporator fan, or a cheapo little defrost control timer. Now they have replaced that cheapo defrost control timer, with a thermostat, multiple themistors, and a bunch of other crap that just adds to the troubleshooting process. I'm all in favor of keeping things as simple as possible.

Great information. Thanks for sharing. It's just too bad most modern appliances are made with such cheap crappy parts. They want them to break down quickly so they can be replaced.

What a great video and such a smart marketing play because it solidifies where I am going to buy the parts needed. Thank you!

Hey Parts Dr!

You are great by the way! These videos are helpful. My issues is that my feeezer won’t freeze. The fan does work at low speeds but does not go any higher. If I unplugged and plug back in the fan goes on high for 15sec then goes back to low. I have a GE PVD28BYNFS 2020 model. I ran codes and it comes back with 003 thermistor. I replaced both the defroster and the one in the plastic panel. When I replaced the defrost thermistor it soundsed like it started to work, then it didn’t. Ummm.. my problem is that we are 300miles from the nearest repair facility. We are on ther resevstion out side of Page AZ. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated

Your video was super helpful !!! But I still have a problem with my fridge getting to temp. My freezer is working fine, but fridge won’t get below 43. When I took it apart to check the 5 things, I found the coil in the fridge was frozen solid so I defrosted and put it back together. All inside fans appear to be working correctly, but I don’t have a volt meter to check the juice. Would a bad temp sensor keep my fridge from getting to temp? . Any other things I can check before having to say

When testing for voltage on an EVAP fan motor, are you just looking for a voltage reading or is there a specific range and I'm going to assume the simple test method is to make sure it's plugged in make sure it's to the coldest setting and the door switches are engaged and put a multimeter on it? Now how often is dirty condenser coils on the back rear the cause of the issue and is that really going to make it to where it's not cooling or is that where it's not cooling completely? Thanks

Thanks for this video, it is awesome. Unfortunately, I am still having issues. I have a GE pye22kynfs French door refrigerator with freezer at the bottom. The refrigerator temperature seems fine, but the freezer drifts between 14-22 degrees. It is set for -5. Basically, we inconsistently get ice (apparently the temp needs to be 15 for that to function) and our ice cream is all like soft serve. All 3 fans seem to be working ok (I have not opened the evaporator panel, but I can feel them kick on. pushing the "Close door" button also allows me to feel the feed for the icemaker turn on as well. The drain had a clog at the very bottom which I removed which gave us ice and a temp @14 for about 3 days - now we are back to no ice and 22 degrees. next guess? Thanks.

Great video! I had a sheet of ice built under the deli drawer of the upper fresh food portion of my GE Twin Chill, like the one in this video. I let it thaw and cleaned the drains by putting hot water. I also replaced the fan on the fresh food, the freezer fan seemed fine. When I turn on fridge, the freezer fan kick on immediately but the fresh food one doesn't. Does it take sometime to kick on?

Hello!, I have a geps6fgkfss model, it works well but every few days the upper part of the freezer defrosts and freezes the vegetable drawer of the refrigerator. Upon checking I see that the evaporator fan stops and does not come back on, if I unplug it and plug it in, the fan starts and everything works normally again for another couple of days. By the way, awsomes videos!! Thxs!

Hi there, i have the GE GSH25SGPA SS, vertical double doors. The fridge is not cooling at all. The evap. & condenser fans are working, the capacitor, current relay, test compressor windings, all good. I will recheck the overload's resistance to see the reading i get. Your thoughts?

We have 60 degrees in frig and 4 in freezer.
We are about to check the parts you have discussed here.
The compressor feels very hot to touch, is that normal.
The freezer fan is still running with the door open.

My evaporator fan motor had stopped in the fridge and the evaporator coils had frozen up. Took it apart, got it thawed out and the fan started back up. Not sure exactly what happened but we are back up and running for now!

I have GE side by side, the freezer temperature suddenly start rising up, if I unplug the electricity and reset it as u described it will start working normally for a day or less, I replaced the heater, sensor and thermistor on the back of the freezer, still doing the same
, now I’m thinking of replacing the board,
Any other suggestions ?

I have a GFSS6KKYESS which looks like model # GFSS6KKYSS not sure what the "E" is for. Anyway we got it used but the display doesn't who the temperature just showing the "e" for energy saver, speaker or sound, and a glass with cubes above the "crushed" option. When I unplug and plug in the power it shows -88 for a while then disappears. Just When I press the buttons Energy Saver, Adjust Freezer, Ice & Water on the left side it doesn't show anything. The same when I press the buttons on the right, "Alarm/Light, Adjust Refrigerator, Ice OFF/Lock". THerefore I cannot adjust the temp of the Fridge, I also tried holding the button for 3 seconds but it's still the same. FYI the water line is not connected. But this should not affect the display right?

Appreciate your videos. Does the compressor start relay impact whether the evaporator fan motors run? Both evap fans do not run in my model (GE PWE23KMKFES). When testing the relay, is there any concern with discharging the capacitor?
