I stand corrected. Thomas Andrews was last seen jumping overboard with Captain Smith. Thank you to my friends below for the much needed correction! 👍

Also can’t forget about the firemen and electricians who stayed behind to make sure her lights stayed on so other people could escape. So many hero’s that night❤️

My favorite hero out of all of them was not included I think in this list; Chief Engineer Joseph Bell of the Titanic.
As the ship began to sink, Bell and the engineers remained in the engine room, urging the stokers and firemen to keep the boilers active, allowing the pumps to continue their work and ensuring the electricity remained on as long as possible.
According to legend, Bell and his men worked to keep the lights and the power on in order for distress signals to get out and they all died in the bowels of the Titanic.
But according to historical record, they all came up onto Titanic's open well deck, but by this time all the lifeboats had already left. Greaser Frederick Scott testified to seeing all the engineers gathered at the aft end of the starboard Boat Deck at the end.
His body was never found. He was survived by his wife and four children. Heroic men to me. They deserve respect for sacrificing themselves to keep titanic alive for as long as possible till the very end. God bless their souls. 🙏🏻✝️👍🏻

William Murdoc was one of the greatest heroes on the night. He followed Captain Smith's instructions to the letter (Women, and Children first). Lightoller on the other hand took this to mean ''Women, and children only''. Additionally if no women or children were in sight Lightoller would launch the boats half full, were as if Murdoc found no women, and children left to fill the boats THEN he'd start asking men to hop into boats. We see this to some degree with the James Cameron version but then he turns Murdoc into an unhinged suicidal individual which doesn't seem right in contrast to how he was in previous scenes. As much as i love James Cameron's Titanic it isn't perfect, and if there was one major mistake it was how he portrayed Murdoc in his final moments.

I'm so happy that you told the story of John Harper. His story is perhaps one of the most inspiring for me especially when you mentioned that he gave his life jacket to a man who refused the gospel at that late hour so that some day the man would be saved.

Lightoller also became an avid in making sure there were boat drills so the crew knew what to do in case the ship would wreck and also to have enough life boats. He also defended all of the officers that died during the trials

A group of men who died completely unheralded in the bowels of the ship was a group of engineers (Separate to Joseph Bells crew) Who kept the ships list and trim under control. Right to the last minutes someone was progressively counter flooding the bilge tanks to stop the vessel capsizing.

For number 1: There were many reports of gun shots being fired from Murdoch's location, and that there was one officer who shot 2 people before shooting himself.
Problem is, no one really knows who that officer was. Capt. Smith, Henry Wilde, and William Murdoch were all in that location at the time, and all 3 of them perished that night.

Sadly I don't see a lot of people talking about Harold Lowe, the guy was a goddamn legend, a real hero, he was the only one who went back to try and save people, and I'm sure he was truly devastated when he arrived to see all these deceased men, women & children, realizing "We waited too long" and only being able to save 4 or 5 people, no doubt he was forever haunted by the sight of all those that died and probably felt guilty for having not arrived sooner.
Harold Lowe took charge when leadership was most crucial, he desperately tried to save as many people as he truly could, and the fact that he was the only one who bravely and selflessly returned to the wreckage in hopes of saving even more people, even though he arrived too late and only managed to save 4 or 5 people, he truly was a hero, and it's sad that I don't see a lot of people in this comment section singing his praises.

Looking back and after learning more about the Titanic and the people on board, I appreciate how much detail James Cameron put into the movie.

Charles Lightoller would later be a hero again during the Dunkirk evacuation saving 120+ servicemembers on board the Sundowner

There was also a man who went down to the area where the dogs stayed and opened all there cages so they could have a chance of survival. Also another man that was in charge of putting people on the life boats helped fill a lot of lifeboats and later served in ww1 and helped out in ww2.

Fun Fact about Charles Lightoller. After the Titanic he would join the Royal navy and in 1915 engage Zeppelin L31 during WWI giving him the Distinguished Service Cross. In 1940, he would be another hero in another event, the Dunkirk Evacuation. In his boat, the Sundowner which had only 21 passengers max capacity, he would rescue 127 British Soldiers.

You forget the fact that Margaret Brown also organized a charity pool for the survivors of the tragedy. I believed she helped raise something like $10, 000 for the group of 700 people.

My Grandmothers first husband was in the engine room when collision occurred and died there, almost every home in Southampton was affected by the loss of many of the crew

Shout out to the ship's electrical engineers. Their station was between the forward and after engine rooms one deck above the tank top (the plating immediately above the keel) and a good 15 minutes from the boat deck under the best of conditions. The Titanic's electrical system was cutting edge in 1912, but nearly every aspect of it was manually operated. Of all on board they had the best knowledge of the advance of flooding as they constantly rerouted circuits to keep the lights below decks burning. A few minutes after 2 am Captain Smith released them from duty saying they could do no more. To a man they elected to remain at their post. As a result the lights failed just two minutes before the sinking.

The true No. 1 is Frederick Barret. First he stayed at his post and rounded up men to draw the fires in boiler room 5 and 6 preventing the ship from blowing up. Then he worked to contain the flooding in boiler room 5. Later he got into lifeboat 13 and when boat 13 was launched, Titanic's bilge pushed it under the lowering boat 15, Barret cut ropes on boat 13 with his knife and saved everyone
