As the new Alitalia looks to the future, CEO Fabio Lazzerini and company president, Francesco Caio are reportedly looking to buy Boeing 787 Dreamliners and Airbus A320s. After years of losses and a bloated workforce, the Italian government decided to launch a new company (or ‘newCo’) to reset the country’s national airline.

A220 parts are also made in Italy so that would boost Italian economy aswell... Really hope they order new aircrafts🤞

787 would be a good call for Alitalia, they could really benefit from it since Italy builds the horizontal stabalizers

Actually i think 787 are good for Alitalia since their old long haul planes are pretty aging

Totally agree, 1 type for short and 1 for long flights good!

If I were an Italian politician I would lobby for the 787 since part of it is made in Italy and it will have a direct (positive) effect on the economy

hope they order the NEO planes as it would be more efficient to use

Pleased to see Alitalia still flying - hopefully with a renewed Boeing presence in their fleet.

I think Alitalia's choice of aircraft is perfect. A220, A320 and A321 neo and 787 is perfect. These aircraft are very fuel efficient. The airline would be flexible how they use these aircraft and would be perfect to fill all ever changing demand. They have a great opportunity to make new connections in the future.

A320 and 787 are pretty much the go to for small airlines nowadays cool to see Alitalia going this route too.

As a now unemployed certified aircraft engineer. Well in my opinion I think if the Airbus 330neo and 350 whether 800 /900 /1000 variants are being offered at 65% off on X amount orders, it seems a no brainer that Alitalia should have an all Airbus fleet. It would really help keep the fleet in excellent condition as the mechanics and engineers will end up knowing the Airbus cockpit system and auxiliary components like in there sleep... And obtaining parts will be cheaper.

Alitalia is really nuts! They don't really have a good route plan. I mean why are Italian airlines like this? Neos flies to Yangon (Myanmar, Ex Burma), but there are only around 300+ Myanmarese people here in Italy. But they (Alitalia and Neos) don't fly to Dhaka, Bangladesh where there are hundred thousand plus) Bangladeshis living here in Italy and most of them go on vacation in Bangladesh almost every year and there are NO direct flights between these 2 routes. So I bet if any of these 2 airlines (Alitalia or neos) starts flying to Dhaka from Rome it would be profitable for them. What do you guys think? Please let me know.

It's a hard one. I think before purchasing any aircrafts the new company should really understand where it wants to position the airline. Domestic and European markets are saturated and profits are minimal as LCC's are increasing their market share. Having an all airbus fleet could be a wiser decision as this could cut costs; A220/A330NEO/A350 seems to be the better choice regardless of the diplomatic situation with EU government.

clean airbus fleet. A220 for shorthaul, a320neo maybe where demand is bigger than the a220, a330neo for medium to long trips and a350-900 to get far away. Would look amazing.

Great strategy fleet simplification & efficiency - the comments about A321xlr are super valid allows for long & thin routes and still be profitable (plus A320 crew compatibility) and unless they have extra long haul in their plans they may get more bang for their buck with A330neo - either way an airline (or government) that’s ordering jets will have loads of leverage on pricing and terms B787 or A330neo with a few A321xlr could be perfect for their long haul operations

a330 Neo seems like its the best option for widebodies, they already operate the original version and airbus is offering them at really large discounts...

Alitalia went 8 times bankruptcy, the government covered its debts every time charging taxes to poor people while the criminal Alitalia managers earned 5M per year before fleeing. This has to be said too honey
