A380 has one camera on the top of the rudder facing forward so the pilot can see the airplane in 3rd person view.

Fun fact: The cameras pointing at the two main gear are mounted on the elevator trim--- meaning when pilots adjust the trim for takeoff, the cameras move and must automatically re-adjust their angle to get the correct view for the pilots. Incredible!

The cameras are pointed at the 3 sets of undercarriage, so crew can check from their cockpit position (a long way out in front) where the wheels are when taking a corner when taxiing.

I've heard that tail cameras are attached to the leading edge of the horizontal stabilizer, so you see picture moving when setting up trim.

We have a couple of ex Etihad 777’s with this feature. They are going to be converted to freighters so I’m not sure if my airline will keep them or not.

The cameras were not for night ops. I used them on every flight. Making a sharp 90 degree turn on narrow taxiways was difficult without the cameras. Real easy to put the main gear off in the first.

How about they attach a bunch of caneras on the plane on the outside (Outside cockpit, left/right side/center/bottom, tail view) and on the inside of the cockpit, and make them as resistant as a black box
