Thanks for your thoughts, helped me a lot!

WOW, what a great review! I've been so sick of all of the other YouTubers who talked about this iPad that it's the best product in terms of hardware for the most of their videos but ending them with the conclusion that it lacks in software. Essentially repeating themselves like brainless parrots.. You have actually shown why the iPadOS is limiting compared to the macOS. Well done!

I went back and forth between the two. Two weeks ago I bought the m3 13” MacBook Air. I played with it for two days and returned it. Replaced it with the iPad and new Magic Keyboard. You have many valid points about the iPad limitations. However, I think a lot of those are more apt for professionals like yourself. I am retired and like to dabble in FCP and Procreate. With my desktop Mac mini and iPad I all my needs are met. I love the fact I can just detach my iPad and have the world at my fingertips in a comfortable position. Having said all that, this was the video I wish I could have seen weeks back. I hope more people find it when trying to decide. Let’s hope iPad OS 18 addresses some of the shortcomings. Great job!

I agree with you. I’m a lawyer, and I use both devices together. I use my MacBook Air to write motions and briefs and to manage files. But but I use my iPad Air for reading opinions and reports, for legal research, watching videos and photos, consulting databases, managing my calendar, making court appearances by zoom, and limited writing like texts and emails. So my laptop is now my desktop and my iPad is the portable that I take to court.

Should I upgrade to 11 or 13 M4 iPad Pro? Also, is the cellular edition worth it? Currently have the 2018 11 iPad Pro without cellular. (iPad Air and Mini are 60hz)

Apple will never make the iPad as good as the MacBook otherwise they will lose a quarter of their sales. Everyone will just buy an iPad.

I didn’t really understand the file transfer issue you were having. You have several options for selecting Files. Hitting the select key at the top and picking the files, clicking a free space and dragging a square (which i never use ) or what I use most often as it’s a touch interface along with a keyboard interface, long press a file then tap the other files you want to copy and drag across. If you hit the drop down in the folder title you will see what the size of the folder is, though i agree this could be in the status bar as an option along with the remaining device storage but that has never been a huge concern for me tbh. I grew up on windows and made the iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard my main personal device about 3 years ago while still using windows for work. Got a M3 16” Macbook pro recently and honestly I find the window management so clunky compared to Windows and IPad OS. There’s so much customization and 3rd party apps needed to make the OS tolerable. Ipad OS may have its limitations but navigating it is intuitive, plesaurable and efficient.

Thank you for this video. For years I've been hearing that the iPad isn't up to the tasks done by a Mac but always gives video editing as the example. I'm not a video editor and don't plan to be so other than that I've wondered what the real differences were. You've done that excellently. I have both and both do what I want them to do but in my zone of tasks, the iPad is, for me, a laptop replacement and even more as the multiple form factors of tablet, laptop, touch screen, and pencil capabilities makes it the winner.

Love your videos. Amazing visuals and explanation.

Although The Ipad is very tempting, I decided to go with Mb Air.
Thanks for great comparison!

Great job explaining and curating the differences of why I must use both. Would love to both combined but that doesn’t appear to be happening. Great work.

Great review here. I am in a similar situation with the M2 iPad Pro 11-inch 8/256 and M2 MacBook Air 13.6-inch 8/256. Technically, my iPad has the unbinned M2 with 10 GPU cores while my MacBook has 8. I do all my serious work on my MacBook as it is just so much more reliable. You have stated some great points there so I often use the iPad on cramped spaces and the MacBook on a desk or on my lap.
The iPad proves itself useful for graphics design, Procreate, notetaking, and even meetings but basically sucks at everything else. Some time ago, I decided to sell my Magic Keyboard as I feel it adds unnecessary bulk to my iPad. I feel like the iPad is never becoming a laptop replacement at least for me. I got a slim folio case for my iPad and I was so happy. Using the iPad as a tablet is such a liberating choice and I am never looking back. The iPad is better as a second screen and drawing tool as the keyboard is literally useless in that regard. It almost feels like I have to force myself to use it as opposed to my MacBook. Even my 11-inch iPad Pro M2 isn't that much lighter than my 13-inch MacBook Air. There is simply no reason for me to pick the iPad Pro over the MacBook for most of my work. In fact, 80% of my iPad usage is as a second screen for my Mac and the remaining 20% is a mix of drawing and notetaking, which is nothing intensive.
I did try video editing with it, with or without the keyboard. It feels clunky and finicky. I don't make use of the touch screen as well. Apple showed how useful the Apple Pencil is for precise cuts but it is more or less useless. They should instead give users a more precise pointer.

For google photos organization, which is the better tool to do this task? On macbook air or ipad air?

in Australia The Ipad Pro 13 inch with 512gb 5G is AUD$3, 697.00 with keyboard whilst the M3 Macbook Air 13inch with 16GB Unified Memory and 512GB storage is AUD$2399. pretty much $1300 difference. i could buy an Ipad Air 256gb with 5G for an additional $400 and get 2 devices as long as i dont want a keyboard. When you put it into perspective i guess you really need to say i really really need the Ipad Pro.Even the Ipad Air with keyboard is more expensive than the Macbook AIR. Money wise i think the Macbook Air wins
