If you’ve seen movies like “The Ten Commandments” or “The Mummy,” you’re almost certainly familiar with the ten plagues of Egypt. Devastating events like swarming flies, boils and sores, and even a river of blood are all very familiar events in the religious texts of both Judaism and Christianity.

But what are the plagues really? Could they actually have been orchestrated by God? Or could the ancient stories represent natural phenomena brought about by massive disasters like an erupting volcano? The truth will probably never be fully known, but there is still a lot of information and knowledge to explore in these classic stories. Keep watching to see the ten plagues of Egypt explained.

I watched a program on the ten plagues and it’s hypothesis’s were very interesting. The 10th plague said where the children, live slept and birth order could explain who lived and who didn’t. As it explained it was said the First Borns slept in a bed only so far off the ground. Others slept if different areas or roofs. A gas that gets released at night creeps around as people sleep. As it starts to rise it dissipates and “disappears” leaving people on roofs unscathed. In Modern times, in past 30yrs in Africa, This has happened. Can’t remember if it was carbon monoxide or another gas that could be the one that killed the first born of humans & live stock.

I know about the Plagues from the Prince of Egypt, and let me just say, they went into detail about the Plagues in that film and did not hold back, in fact it's my favorite part of the movie. Locusts and Flies were part of the plagues, and the final plague was the most brutal one. God had sent down the Angel of Death to kill first born Egyptian sons, with the Pharaohs own son also dying, and it was only because of this the Pharaoh finally relented and freed the Israelites. This was an interesting video, thanks Grunge.

You did _not_ insert a Firefly reference! LOL.

As for the 10th plague, the volcanic eruption covers that as well. You kind of glossed over it. But the _was_ a volcano that erupted at around that time. And each one of the plagues represent what _would_ have happened in that area in the sequence given. Including the 10th. The death in and around the Nile would have caused a massive release of CO and methane. Which hugs the ground and would kill any short animals ones lying down. How did it get the first-born of Egyptians? Comes down to tradition. It has always been the job of the first born male to be primary care giver of the livestock. There for, they most often slept on the first floor of the dwelling, close to a door so they could hear if they were in distress. This often meant sleeping on the ground on a mat. Further, in this case since the Jews were warned about it, they stayed together to weather this out. Huddled together in a room upstairs.

Once you know the full picture everything makes sense. In fact, the volcano explanation leaves only a single question.

How did Moses know about it?

Despite the lack of historical context, I have another suggestion. The first born weren't only children. Pharaoh was probably a first born son, as was the "crown prince" who was being trained to be the next ruler. So the younger "playboy" son was the one who was Pharaoh after that plague.

There is a cultural explanation for the first born sons to die. When food stocks get low, it would be tradition for the first born to eat at the expense of the other children. Since the grain stocks were low but tainted, only the first born sons ate.

🐪🤔 Camels weren't used in Egypt until the 6 or 7th century B.C. How is that all of Egypt's camels died off when the Egyptians weren't using domesticated camels until 600 years later?

The firstborn were the first to eat, and there was disease carrying wheat from the previous plagues.

Why do people keep trying to explain the Bible with science 😂

I really wish you would explain some of your facts more clearly. Saying Aaron was his partner could interpret it in a different way. I’m not a very religious man just a man that likes history regardless if it’s fictional or not.

Every plagues was meant to show that YHWH is greater and stronger than every gods in Egypt.. magicians with their cult are slave of their gods.
