West Virginia faces legal reckoning over foster care crisis

West Virginia, which has the country's highest rate of children in foster care, is facing a class-action lawsuit accusing the state of failing to protect more than 6,000 children in their care. Gov. Jim Justice (R-WV) has acknowledged "tons of challenges" in the system, but the state denies the allegations in the lawsuit. NBC News' Stephanie Gosk has more.

Why is the opioid settlement money the state of WV received not going to help the children in foster care as a result of parental opiod addiction?

I worked in foster care management in Missouri. The system is overwhelmed, staff overworked, they don’t train us, the kids are usually unmanageable, not enough foster homes, we had to house and stay with kids in the office if we couldn’t find them a home…

I can go on and on. I had a caseload of 25. A state social worker can have a caseload of 60. I’m not making this up btw.

I have eight grown up children all are mostly married and have children and good jobs.I would take four or five kids and would have no problem raising them.I was a Foster Father years ago so I know a lot of the challenges but mostly what these kids need is love and being part of a family with an opportunity to learn a trade so they will have a fair chance in life.

We should have orphanages all over the country. Atleast kids have a stable one place to live and interact with other kids and its practical.

Every child that has to go through the nightmare of foster care, try or they play some in certain jails are youth homes and what they're treated as is abominable
