What you need to know about plaster walls to not ruin them! Can you cut or punch holes? How easy is it to patch holes? Can you fix cracks in plaster? The best way is to not screw them up in the first place! Fix up your old house so the next person won't destroy the plaster!

Plasterer here. Cute video. Stop with the negativity peeps. It’s just a fun video with some truth to it. For those saying she did not give an alternative… well she did… picture rail dudes. You can still make holes but if you don’t have access to a plasterer or don’t care or know how to fix it then try to keep it to a minimum. Here’s another alternative: 3M Command Strips. They have picture hooks and Velcro. They don’t even pull off the paint when removing years later. Can’t hold a tv but can hold a lot of other things.

This makes no sense because if you want someone to hang their tv there then they are gonna need to make holes for the tv mount. I don’t understand this video. It would have been more helpful to be taught HOW to work with plaster walls.

How did you add outlets without cutting holes?

But didn't she cut holes to install the outlet above the fireplace and on the wall for the sconce?? It's good she explained what happens when you put holes into plaster walls but, it would have been much more informative if she explained the correct way to cut holes rather than calling people idiots. I recently purchased a home not knowing the walls were plaster. Fortunately, a contractor pointed it out when I was deciding if I wanted my TV mounted on the wall or left on the stand.

What would you recommend to secure your tv and furniture to plaster walls when child proofing.

Thank you. You really drove that message home and I really needed it. My plaster wall also thanks you!

This is kinda nonsense. There are very good ways to drill and cut plaster without cracks occurring or your plaster separating from the lath. You just have to do things carefully and use the proper drill bits and blade.

I just bought an old house and was searching how to hang a mirror. I think this video just saved me some heartache

This was funny. I have a love hate with my plaster walls. My condo came with a huge crack like that and hanging things is a mess 😂 I’ve been patching and sanding old holes for so long lol

Wish I’d seen this 20 years ago when I bought my house! No more holes from here on out

Hate/love relationship when it comes to plaster. You can right a lot of wrongs in crooked old homes, literally by plastering the wall at a right angle. BUTT omg all of the above in the video. I hate how it breaks, cracks, can't attach nothing to it, it's also tedious to do, ugh. Told my boyfriend: no, the next room we are using drywall to fix the crooked wall. I don't care how.

Try a masonry bit... nothing on those plaster walls that can't be fixed. Most people are too cheap to hire someone with the skill to do so.

Theirs not much you can do to prevent cracks in plaster walls and ceilings. Over time it’s just gonna happen one way or another. But certainly don’t go nailing into plaster.

Well. There goes my geometrical trim pattern design idea on a plaster wall…..I just picked up the nail gun today!……

Utterly pointless. She repeats 100 times "don't put holes in plaster" but then says "oh, I put this outlet here, and these sconces there" and never once indicates how she went about safely making the cuts for those holes! Wtf?

1:40 This scene: *put* in an outlet right here....
Next scene
... don't cut holes in plaster...

Take away.., only... put... holes in plaster... never cut.
