One of the hardest skills in plastering is applying the plaster. And I highly recommend that you learn to use a trowel and hawk. However, if you're completely new then I can show you an easier way to get the plaster onto the wall...

And that's with a roller.

It sounds outrageous but this method works and you can actually get good results doing it. You just need to know HOW...

This is a really excellent explanation. My mate, who's a hugely experienced builder, showed me how to plaster one time but he was just taking so much stuff for granted - he does a brilliant job but without thinking about it so his explanation missed about half of what one really needs to know. Use a medium pile
Roller sleeve. You don’t get half the texture and it’s so much easier . If doing ceilings use a pole and you can lay it all on from the floor. Use speed skim with pole too.

Bit the bullet and bought a Pentrillo plaster roller after seeing your vids..I can plaster normally..been doing it for years.. however.. I had a go on a 20m2 ceiling at home..
1. Great bit of kit for getting the plaster on quick and semi evenly.. I found it going off a bit quick on the first coat and dragging when flattening as I’d done the whole ceiling..brought it back with a slurry sponge ok..
2. Second coat I rollered a meter strip then trowel flattened it and worked my way across the ceiling.. this solved the problem fine..
3. Tried my speed skim over it on both coats.. it dragged it off.. so put it back in the van..😂
4. The roller sheds fibres a bit.. so you have to pick them out.. not really an issue..
5. Definitely a good bit of kit for a DIY to get plaster on the ceiling without it going all over the floor..

One thing I'm not quite clear on is that when you say roughly 20 minutes per stage... I'm not sure if that's 20 minutes actually applying the plaster, then waiting, then another 20 minutes of doing the next stage, then waiting and so on... OR whether the 20 minutes includes the interval, then going straight into the next stage - so starting each subsequent stage at 20, 40, 60, 80 minutes etc. I hope that makes sense.

I have only ever put one coat on but this tutorial explains a lot will try two on my next job have you got a tutorial on corners and ceilings??
