How about a male-female pair of African dwarf frogs?

Or maybe an appropriate species of crab. A hermit?

For fish... hrm. Horizontal room... if your betta would tolerate another aggressive fish, African shelldwelling cichlids?

I come pretty late to this, but what are that tank measures? Tried to find out based on the volume of water you said, but just to be sure... It looks insane, by the way!
