I have been asked if the Valencia floods have affected Mallorca, so I wanted to bring you this island update.

In addition, I have some advice if you are visiting the island on holiday, particularly over the winter and we receive storm warning.

I have been asked for the best way to donate to the Valencia recovery effort.
My best recommendation is to donate directly to those who can put the funds quickly to where they are most needed:
Here are 3 suggestions. If I see anything else, I’ll keep you posted.
1. CARITAS SPAIN is the Catholic Church’s official Organisation for charity and social relief
They are organising help in affected areas of Valencia.
Donate here:
Caixabank ES50 2100 0390 2102 0105 9469
2. THE RED CROSS, emergency aid to victims of the disaster on the ground
The Red Cross in Valencia has also activated a team specialized in child care.
Santander ES44 0049 0001 5321 1002 2225
BBVA ES92 0182 2370 4600 1002 2227
Caixabank ES28 2100 0600 8502 0196 0066
Sabadell ES31 0081 5232 2800 0108 4716
Bankinter ES75 0128 0010 9701 0012 1395
Banco Cooperativo (Cajas Rurales) ES86 0198 0500 8020 2205 3421
3. Modepran Valencia Animal Shelter has been impacted heavily by the storm and is looking to rebuild the shelter.
Best way to pay is via their bank account
ES94 2100 1716 86 0100503303
The most affordable way to send money where the banks don’t get the lion's share of the transfer fee is via Wise, Revolt or Monzo.
Other animal shelters which you can also find on Facebook or Google include:
✓ *Cullera feline connection* (Cullera, Valencia)
✓ *Feline Karma* (Alfafar/Benetússer, Valencia)
✓ *Jadoul Més Que Gossos Foundation* (Cheste, Valencia)
✓ *Rescue and Love* (Cullera, Valencia)
✓ *Encarny B Ong* (Algimia de Alfara, Valencia)
✓ *Kproject*
✓ *Cencaval*

Your on the ground information and advice is greatly appreciated, left Majorca the same day as you did Alex on Saturday and now feeling sheepish for moaning about the delays, the loss of life in the Valencia area puts everything into perspective, hope the residents can get the help they need and that they can get back to normality asap.

There is a general feeling of sadness here on the island. Some of the events at the huge Fira in Inca have been cancelled as a mark of respect. In Mercadona lots of solemn faces, and tearful eyes during the minute’s silence.
On the up side, I bought a lovely cauliflower!

Super respectful video Alex. My heart goes out to the valencians. I still can’t get my head around some of the pictures on the news. I know Spain is super family oriented so I’m positive they will all be pulling together to help

Thinking of all those affected by the recent storm. Your supermarket is so clean and spacious compared to our ones in Wiltshire. ❤️🐸

I have just said to my husband, imagine if we had a years rain all at once. Those poor people who have lost their lives, and the people who have lost their homes and businesses, I really do feel for them. Thanks for the information Alex. Take care.

For those that don't know, in Mallorca, "torrents" are gullies that run down from the mountains to the coast and are dry a lot of the time, but when it rains, they can carry a frightening amount of water. Torrent is the Catalan word. In other parts of Spain, they are called arroyos.

I'm very sad about these events glad things aren't so bad on the island 😢

Storms at this time of year are normal but something is seriously wrong when a years worth of rain falls in 24 hours. This is a tragedy but also a good time to see people pull together to support each other. Spain will get through this but it's a warning to the future.
