Is Black Myth Wukong Soulslike? #shorts #blackmythwukong #blackmythwukonggameplay #wukong #blackmythwukonggameplay

Black Myth: Wukong is an upcoming action role-playing game developed and published by Game Science. It is inspired by the classical Chinese novel Journey to the West. It is scheduled to release worldwide for PlayStation 5 and Windows on August 20, 2024, with an Xbox Series X/S version slated for a later date. Pre-release, it has received generally positive reviews from critics with praise directed towards its combat, visual design, and wor ldbuilding, while criticism was aimed at its level design and technical issues.

The game is reportedly the first installment in a planned Black Myth series, which will explore different stories in Chinese mythology.

Souls like, not souls like or Souls Lite?

I COMPLETELY AGREE. This game seems to be in the perfect middle between your typical action RPG and a Souls Like

I feel like this is much more "god of war" than "dark souls"

I've said it on someone elses video, but this game is a lot like the Nioh games (Skill trees, Stances, Combos between stances, Boss Skills which are pretty much the exact same thing as the Yokai Abilites in Nioh), and despite how wildly different Nioh is compared to the Soulsbourne games themselves, Nioh is still considered a Souls-like. So if something like Nioh can be considered a souls-like, then I will still consider Black Myth Wukong a souls-like.

Btw literally all the Soulsbourne games have tutorials telling you the controls and what to do, Elden Ring has the pop up menus, Dark Souls has it through the Messages on the floor, Bloodborne has it through the messengers, and Sekiro also has pop up menus.

People cant separate the two genres of games Action/Adventure games like Devil May Cry, God of War, Onimusha, Ghost of Tsushima, Assassin's Creed at least 1 through Unity, Ninja Gaiden, Sekiro, etc. And Action RPG games like Nioh, Wo Long, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Elden Ring, etc. Black Myth Wukong is an Action/Adventure game. There's no character creator, stats to level with xp, build diversity, etc. The build/character customization is what gives a game the RPG element. Most Action Adventure games have only one main protagonist that the player will play as, and more of a single playstyle, versus carious playstyles in the Action RPGs

It reminds me of Jedi Survivor if that makes any sense? The check points, telepathy, and the stick as a primary weapon that can be modified. Now I haven’t played it myself just judging on what’s been presented since release. It looks fun as hell though

I have brain damage that mainly affects my motor functions and I got into souls games as kinda therapy and I have beaten a few of the souls games like ER and DSR and DS3. I'm currently 10 hours into BMW and for me this is a great challenge no were near as hard as SotE but a challenge all the same

The ones that argue and day that it's not soul's like. They are the same ones that never played the games and say it just bc of public opinion.

I hate when people argue it isn't a souls like game. It is it has way to many souls games mechanics but I do agree it's done enough to be different and stand out in the genre. If anything It's like if God of War and a souls game had a baby

Personally this feels a lot more like a souls game than even sekiro

I would say this is the perfect intro game into souls genre, it’s got the balance of difficulty with action.

People are so obsessed, always comparing RPG games to dark souls like it's the grand standard of rpg that it all started with Fromsoftware.

For you young players out there, darksouls didnt invent their mechanics, it came from previous rpg, action games from the past they just added some new spice to it, they got their fighting mechanics from MONSTER HUNTER.

Another YouTuber said people throw that term around too loosely; and I agree. It does have elements from Souls/like games, but that doesn't mean it is one.

If someone wanted to get into Souls games but was afraid to just jump right in this is what I'd recommend.

1st. Jedi Fallen Order/Survivor. This will get them used to an easier version of the Souls formula and the idea of enemies respawning after using Rest Points.

2nd. Black Myth Wukong. Up the challenge for them as well as introducing the unusual style of storytelling, though this would be easier to digest because the game is basically a sequel to Journey to the West. If you want to understand what's going on then you need to familiarize yourself with that story and it's characters.

3rd. Lies of P. Up the difficulty again but now we also bring in the more punishing aspects. Enemies and bosses are harder now, your character build and choices are going to matter a lot more now and you will lose your XP upon every death.

Taking each of these steps one at a time and learning to navigate and overcome them will get the player in question ready for wherever they choose to start their From Software voyage.
