LESSON SUMMARY
Many piano students assume they'll need years of formal training in order to improvise on the piano. While it can be daunting to know where to begin, learning to improvise is as natural as learning to speak your native language. For instance, just like you learned to speak before entering formal education, you can learn to improvise piano as an amateur pianist. All you really need is a model to imitate. In today's Quick Tip, Jonny models how to improvise professional piano lines in a contemporary piano style that any amateur pianist can quickly grasp. You'll learn:
- 2 Contemporary Chords
- 1 Scale
- 2 Master Grips
- 2 Pro Improv Techniques

I usually don't write comments at all, but those lessons are something absolutely out of this world. I started playing piano couple of days ago and those lessons are giving me expressive freedom and musicality already at such early stage. Jonny you are gorgeous :)
These are the best piano lessons I ever had.

Hey Jonny,
Thanks for reaching out with your radiant enthusiasm to our beginner’s minds. I’m nearly 69 now and I was filled with hope for a late life start with piano a few years ago when coming across your work. However I struggled to follow along as my brain felt as if I’d never get to a stage where I could keep up with the seeming light speed that everything moved at. I used to slow everything down to 75% speed and painstakingly write out the notes to the tutorials because it was hard to follow what notes were being pressed by watching your hands.

Then I worked out that I just needed to break things down so there weren’t so many components to deal with at once. I went away for a several years and quietly studied classical music for sight-reading experience and can now understand and work on the expression in the easiest of Chopin nocturnes. Now I understand the two ‘voices’ of piano better. I do have difficulty memorising pieces and rely on sheet music but still long for the freedom exemplified in these beautiful tutorials. This week I’ve started again with this tutorial in particular and am thrilled to find its chunky content is now feeling within the realm of possibility (actually reminds me of the one you did on using a quartal scale in the way it frees you to explore the whole keyboard). I’m going to re-visit all your tutorials until I’ve internalised more basics and hopefully feel confident enough to join your classes.

The thing that makes this guy a genius is that he distills complex ideas into basic concepts and gives tangible exercises that are 'doable.'

Jonny, you're simply a BAD Boy on the piano. PLEASE keep sharing.

My favorite lesson so far. Jonny nudges piano students away from so much reading and more on actually creating/listening (which I always thought was the point of .playing the piano).

I started playing about 3 months ago and these lessons really helped me get my improv in blues and jazz off the ground. To the point where some of my extended family called me a "prodigy." Not sure if quite true but I can definitely say that Jonny has helped quite a bit and given me so many ideas to improve my playing. Thanks man
