Finally, somebody actually telling beginners to actually learn music theory instead on selling them some dead midi pack. Well done bro, keep grinding 🔥🙏

I've been a pianist for 13 years, a composer for four years, and this is one of the best tips I've ever heard

Absolutely a king for saying “always the music first” instead of putting his tag for the music course he’s selling. What a homie 💯

All those people who say “music theory limits your creativity” need to watch this video

I’ve been playing viola since fourth grade and just kinda followed along not really understanding why I did anything. Now that I’m learning music theory I’ve had so many “ohhhh, that’s why we did that!” Moments

Well said! As a pianist i love learning new songs and it used to take forever when i was starting but now i can just hear and remember it for good🎹🎶💖💁‍♀️

Totally agree. Like we sing a song and later we know oh this song is in C, for example

Very helpful video. I remember Paul McCartney saying one time how he would get on the piano, break up chords, and create songs out of it when he was with The Beatles.

I’m 22 and been wanting to learn so many different instruments since I was a kid… I could easily have 10 years experience but 10-15 years later I’m still wishing I knew how to play and you just gave the motivation I needed💯

Honestly as a mathematician and programmer this concept seem to generalize really well to all learning: do first then after try to understand.

Because in school we are used to theory and then practice but honestly in my experience that's not effective, theory only makes sense when you have soemthing to reference to.

Can’t play back any songs yet, but I started learning scales and chords, and now I label all my melodies loops in a key for future reference. Sound ideas come together waayyy quicker now.

First song I learned was Light My Fire with both hands, 5 years later I realized what I did. I was 9 years old. Very useful tips!

This is exactly what I’ve been looking for and to get it from a brotha who seems like he knows what he’s talking about AND CAN ACTUALLY PLAY means that much more❤️‍🔥

💯 I need to get back to that, I been so lost in the theory sauce lately and just noodling with chords and scales but you can learn so much with a single song, that’s how I started too definitely the best way to learn . Theory is more for understanding, but it won’t teach you how to write tunes. Thanks for the reminder !

Yes I agree! It's great to have theory under your belt and learn it, but its better if you have a song for motivation

This 💯 💯💯💯 I used to play the piano as a kid from age 5 until 7 and then stopped. 30 years later I decided to pick it back up and got a piano. Decided to learn moonlight sonata knowing it was way too hard for me. It was tough but I spend 4 months just learning that 1 song everyday and can play it well now. Last week I started to tackle Interstellar. Again this piece is way much harder than my ability but that is the way you actually learn and grow. 💪🏽💪🏽💙💙

Theory not only makes sense of what you're doing, but it allows you expand on it. Knowing all those chords and stuff just makes experimentation a little easier.

I like this tip a lot. I do try to decode some random things that pop into my head and will attempt to play them on keys. Arpeggios are basically sound loops, so if you can identify some chords, break 'em up until you get what you hear.
