The TRUTH about VENOMOUS Spiders

Black Widow, Brown Recluse Spider, Yellow Sac Spider, Sydney Funnel web and the Brazilian Wandering Spider. These are just some of the spiders considered to be the most venomous and therefore most deadly spiders on the planet. However, if we take a closer look they might not be as dangerous as we think.

The origins of the 'Tarantella' are based on various legends. While there may be some elements of truth to the story, spider bites causing an epidemic is very unlikely.

Even though the likelihood of the
spiders shown biting and killing you is low,
you still shouldn't handle them.

Even non-lethal bites can be
incredibly painful and make you sick.

Always observe from a safe distance.

Wolf spiders are the original tarantula, its just that when europeans went to the Americas, they just called every big spider a tarantulas. Also, if you are wondering, Europe’s biggest spiders are giant wolf spiders so theres that too.

Edit: I keep wolf spiders and have been bitten 3-5 times, and not once have i ever been in a situation where i couldn’t go on with my day normally. The bites do hurt and in one of those bites the fangs went deep but it never drew any significant amount of blood.

The fangs of the Sydney Funnel Web can pierce a fingernail. In Summer they roam and are often found in houses and swimming pools. They're also quite aggressive and look terrifying.

Growing up in Australia we were taught at school how to treat things like jellyfish stings and snake and spider bites.

It's important to be aware of the risks in order to avoid them. In the years since I've encountered black snakes, brown snakes, and funnel webs and where I live currently keep finding brown widows and redbacks in my apartment so the pest control guy is coming next week.

My husband was bitten by a black widow. He went to work and was sent home due to hand swelling and having a fever. Painful, but obviously not deadly. Love the video of the baby Versicolor. That's my favorite T. So cute!

I used to be terrified of tarantulas till I started watching Exotic’s Lair and learned how fragile they are. Also helps that there are no aggressive species in my area.

I'm allergic to spider bites, they swell to the size of baseballs. And that's just regular spiders. So, Brown Recluses and Black Widows need to stay tf away from me, I'm still scared lol. 🙅

Very good video. I live in extreme Upstate, Ny and I was bitten a few years back by a yellow sac spider. It didn't hurt, but then again, i have spinal and neck injuries, so that could be the reason for that, lol. Obviously, it didn't kill me, but the wound took over 6 months to heal and had abscessed to a considerable size before all was said and done. I now have a hole on my thigh, almost the size of a nickel. Yeah, it wasn't a pleasant experience. While most spiders i will catch and put outside, those guys now get squashed on sight. I dont like spiders, but now i try to learn about them, so i know who to fear, lol.

Came across a lot of spiders in basic training in Georgia. I was actually really arachnophobic before that, and i got so use to seeing them all the time I got over it.

I put my hand in a rubber glove that had been unused for a while, not long after I put my gloved hand in hot water to wash the dishes I felt a strange sensation like static electricity rippling over my skin. I immediately removed the glove and about 20 tiny spiderlings erupted out of the glove. A redback had built a nest inside the glove. Within a few minutes my hand had swelled to Les Grossman proportions. There wasn't much pain, probably due to the juvenile spiders undeveloped venom. After a few hours the swelling went down and all was well.
I've been bitten by a very large Huntsman which hurt quite a bit and I felt slightly nauseas but that was probably due more to shock than venom.
While peeling bark from a paperbark tree I was bitten by a Northern Tree Dwelling Funnel web. This was a monster, much larger than my own hand. And boy did that hurt! Pretty sure it was a dry bite and the pain was from the huge fangs. I still have two tiny white scars 20 years after the incident.
And yes, I'm Australian.
I've also been chased by a small ( 6 foot ) saltwater crocodile at the beach, and I once stood on a shark, either a Tiger or Bull, as I could see that it had a blunt nose, while treading water after my sailboat capsized. I was lifted out of the water to the the level of my groin and dragged sideways in the direction it was swimming.
And yes, urine washes out of board shorts quite well in salt water.

What a great meta-analysis of spider lethality!

The whole reason I say that my fear of spiders is unreasonable.

I once made a huge huntsman bite me as a child, i had to really mess with him. I remember jumping at the pinch, than just being ichy on the palm for a few hours haha.

It was a semi normal thing in my primary school at the time. 😅

A right of passage if you will. 😂
