Why would we want to put our lives on the line for a country that actively absolutely hates us and despises us????
They're even blaring it everywhere possible ffs.
I served my country, just to get shafted by them and treated like a pariah. My resentment grew larger and larger over the years and conflicts I took part of as contractor and volunteer.

Rather be active and take care of your community and family.

One of my Grandfathers served in WW1, Navy, and his two oldest sons, my Uncles were infantry in WW2. My other Grandfather, served in WW2 on a mine sweeper. I knew none of this when I joined the Air Force. Their generations were silent about why they joined, what they did and never had pictures of themselves in uniform. I was told War was hell for them.

I love Jack Carr and Mike Glover. I’m in law enforcement now and just hit my 30s. I used to want to serve in the military as a kid, and now, I am glad I did not. I’m realizing that this country is becoming something it wasn’t intended to be, and those civil servants who view themselves as “in charge” do not have the people they are supposed to serve in mind. I also see how GWOT veterans are feeling like they were used and abused and deceived/let down by the people who were supposed to lead.

I guess the main thing is I don’t want to serve and fight and die in Ukraine or any of our nation’s other money laundering schemes just so a politician can fill his or her pockets and laugh from their ivory tower while young men bleed out in the mud.

Anyways, thank you for your service, guys.

I served proudly 2000-2004 in the infantry. I would never do so today. The modern military only exists to feed the military industrial complex. We did too back then but it wasn’t as obvious. Now kids have access to information about just how evil and corrupt our government is? The younger Americans also see leadership not caring for their servicemembers while asking for 100%. Unless it’s your last resort to survive, why would you contribute to this system?

Appreciate you guys and my family that served before me but I’m fully happy that I didn’t, and I think you would be surprised that it’s not a unique perspective.

Let the mercenaries and contractors fight for their bosses.

I think the reason is twofold. Why risk your life when you can be a social media influencer? Second, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan accomplished nothing bedsides getting rid of Saddam and Bin Laden.

The US needs a military victory like the first Gulf War to encourage enlisting. Aside from that I would not be against 6 months of compulsory military service at 18.
