I think it's cool that he never gave up the blue crystal. I'm sure that struck even more fear in the Jedi. They would wonder who else in their midst was a Sith keeping their blue crystal.

It's amazing how a unique weapon can end up being an infamous form of fear of those in the Jedi Order who are suppose to be "passive and fearless" emotionally speaking. But it was the hand that designed and wielded such a weapon who should of been feared since a light saber like any weapon, is neither good nor evil and depending on the warrior that wields any form of weapon that determines its "allegiance and purpose" in battle.

He was such a well written character back in the old books. I would rather see the Academy trilogy over the Heir trilogy. However we know current lucasfilm would ruin them all either way.
