As seen in The Acolyte, cortosis is a rare ore that can short out lightsabers. Few materials can strike fear in the Jedi and Sith. While beskar will give them pause, the even more rare cortosis will short-circuit their lightsabers.

Darth Vader first encountered cortosis a month after the rise of the Galactic Empire. Following a lead on Obi-Wan Kenobi, Vader walked into a carefully laid trap by Jedi Purge survivors. Armed with a cortosis-weaved blade, Jedi Master Shadday Potkin cornered Vader and successfully deactivated his lightsaber. However, never having faced a Sith Lord, her triumph was quickly overshadowed by Vader’s rage and mastery of the Force. Over twenty years later, Vader faced another cortosis weapon, this time wielded by a Spark Eternal-possessed Doctor Aphra. The Spark confidently engaged him with the Null Blade, an ancient weapon forged specifically to slay Sith. As their weapons clashed, Vader’s lightsaber flickered and failed. The Spark moved in for the kill. Unfazed, Vader used a powerful Force push to expel the Spark from Aphra’s body, showcasing his dominance over any adversary.

This really does show that while Vader is a master Swordsman with a lightsaber, his true power comes from his use of the force.

The cortosis blade is one of a kind and no other cortosis has ever been found so something like that happening again is near zero

There are two varieties of Cortosis.
While ALL forms of Cortosis are extremely rare:
Only less than 10% of all Cortosis is the “active” variety ( can short out lightsabers ) whilst over .90% of Cortosis is only useful for blocking the plasma blades.

Cortosis ROBES would be spectacular, not only for being immune to lightsaber strikes, but to blaster fire as well., which is after all, a plasma bolt.

What I don’t get is the fact that you only ever see like maybe 50 jedi and some younglings and a good few padawans before the purge. suddenly after it there’s like thousands of Jedi survivors all disconnected from each other being hunted down by Darth Vader and the WORST fake siths ever. Like the inquisitors are just… ass

The only reason why the Jedi/Sith ised lightsabers was because they needed a way to fight because most if the time they couldnt fight each other with the force. Similae to anakin vs obiwan on mustafar when they blast each other after both trying to force push the other. So this is really cool because Vader doesnt need a lightsaber since his power in the force is so strong that je can simply overpwer most enemies with it.
