2022 Toyota GR86 vs 2022 Subaru BRZ - Which One to Buy?

You have a choice between a pair of wonderful, affordable compact sports cars in the 2022 Toyota GR86 and the 2022 Subaru BRZ. But... they're very nearly the same car, right? Sort of. So how do you know which one to pick? We're here to help.

This video is great all around but you got my Like when you said we like the HV/AC controls NOT being hidden in a menu. PLEASE automakers, stop this idiocy. Any control a driver might use while they're driving along and bouncing down the road should be instantly available, intuitively placed and one quick tap of a button or turn of a dial should do the trick.

Honestly if I was looking for one right now it would come down to which local dealer was going to give me a better deal. I could go either way.

I'm going with the GR 86 because my other vehicle is a 4Runner, and I get all of my maintenance done at a place that only services Toyota and Lexus vehicles. A couple questions though: Why are so many people obsessed with having the fastest car with the most horsepower when very few people will ever track their car and even fewer people will ever drive their car near the edge of its performance limits? I have a sport bike that can do 180 mph, but going that fast doesn't appeal to me now that I'm not 18 anymore. Why can't more people appreciate a fun, sporty car for what it is instead of fantasizing about winning races? I want an 86 to have fun, carve canyons, and go places with my friends - not go around a track.

BRZ for the dialed in corner hugging, argent wheels, and red interior accents BUT .. Adding the GR86’s duck bill/tail spoiler extension and probably the subwoofer accessory

To lease or trade in at 100 thousand miles, mostly which dealer is closer, or which seems better during test drives, ideally drive each 3 different times over a couple of weeks. For very long term ownership, I would go with the Subaru, for its extra aluminum suspension parts, and dealer mechanics that have more years of experience with the engine.

I like the overall look and styling of the gr86 with the exception of that rear duckbill spoiler.... Take the one from the BRZ and put it on the GR86 and I'd buy it!

I'm loyal to both Toyota and Subaru, but much more so to Toyota.

I ordered the BRZ. I prefer the slightly "safer" and more predictable dynamics, and I'm not paying more for the same vehicle.

+ I genuinely prefer it without the spoiler. It looks glued on to me, and much less clean and classic. My 23 BRZ delivers in June.
