Doug is the type of guy who makes two separate reviews of BRZ and GT86.

I like how at 12:58 Doug says he's flooring it and a VW sedan is overtaking him at the same time.

I’d choose this over the BRZ, but I already know Toyota dealers are going to mark these up compared to Subaru.

I got a 2024 base, last Saturday, it’s the nicest car I’ve ever owned by a long shot. I just made the break in 500mi yesterday and got to get out of 4k rpm for the first time. I almost cried, never felt so joyous and alive. Worth every penny, tons of grip.

It's an entry-level sports car, turbos add complexity and price. Making it less accessible to beginners.

I think Toyota understands that modding community for their cars is great for brand representation.
They're providing a platform for both beginners and the enthusiasts who would increase the power regardless of its starting point

The reason they tend to put Alcantara on the bit above the gauge cluster is because leather and plastic *can* reflect light and sometimes be distracting (it's usually not a problem, but in a lot of higher end sports cars that are intended to be driven on race tracks and have drivers that cannot be distracted, it can make a difference). Alcantara is a comparatively more expensive material to source and work with than pleather, plastic or real leather, so it isn't often found on the cheaper versions of sports cars

I bought this car after my 2021 Mazda Miata was totalled in a flood. It's great and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone who enjoys driving a car with good handling. It's not particularly fast but that's not why I bought this car (nor the Miata). I considered a Supra but it was too heavy and too expensive. If you're watching this video because you're actually considering buying one, I say go for it because I don't think you'll be disappointed, as long as you're aware of what this car is good at (corners) and what it's not good at (being fast in a straight line). It's amazing how even though it weighs 400lbs more than the Miata, it still handles just as well/delicately.

Doug is the type of guy who still gets excited over heated seats, while wearing a t-shirt under his t-shirt

One of the interesting quirks is that the GR86 has a very usable numeric gauge for the oil temp, while the BRZ has an unusable "analog" style gauge.

Hey Doug, the Alcantara on the gauge cluster helps with glare vs a plastic one that would reflect onto the window. Hope that helps!

13:00 - VW driver is like: "Yeah, that GR86 could use some more power"

I usually don't like watching dougs videos for a mechanical pov of the car, it's usually more interesting to see him explain the quirks and features, but this time he did a really good job explaining the differences between this gen and the last gen even though most people just think it's simply +.4L to the engine and new exterior. Also like doug said just slight 30hp boost would make the car perfect, luckily you can get close to that amount with just some bolt ons and a tune.

I love @ 12:57 the VW that blows right past him as he is talking about the lack of power.

This looks like a fun car to drive and fun doesn't always mean fast. If I were in the market for that type of car I'd get one.

When he says nobody's gonna use the back seat, I just think of high school when my buddy would pick up 4 of us

Missed quirk: The gauge cluster is the same shape as the engine!

Coming here right after watching the Lucid Air video… I have to say, it’s impressive how Doug can be equally enthusiastic about a car having heated seats in 2021 as he is about a 170k EV having a key fob with no buttons 😂

My favorite Honda was 2016 Accord Sport 2.4L 6MT, no turbo, no nothing. 189hp and it drove amazing. It's not about how fast you get from stop light to stop light. It's about the in-between. It's more fun to drive slow car 10/10th than fast car 5/10th.

I think I would rather have a naturally aspirated engine in the GR86, as much as I'd want it to have more power. Aside from the price, naturally aspirated cars simply have a more natural and communicative feel to them, which I think is better considering that this car puts more emphasis on handling and the way it drives rather than power and acceleration.
