When you won't let families leave during the fire but you'll let tourists swim in the wake of the disaster something's really really wrong.

Another Hawaiian said the tourists need to keep coming because they needed the incoming revenue. It's heartbreaking

I’m currently in Maui. I have been thanked by SO many locals for keeping our vacation and spending money. Local shops are closing left & right at the lack of tourism.

I 100% understand why the locals are bothered by the tourists. However those tourist dollars are needed now more than ever. That $700 check from the government is a slap in the face. Nothing gets rebuilt without money.

Sometimes you're the hammer, sometimes the nail,
don't resent the tourists, it's our government that failed

Unfortunately and paradoxically, Hawaii’s #1 economic industry is tourism. Today’s empty airports and consequent lack of tourist dollars are already rubbing salt to the wound because people are telling tourists to stay away! Yes, we grieve, we all have heavy hearts, but life must keep moving on, time doesn’t stop, no matter what happens.

Don’t listen to her. The people of Hawaii need the tourists to get thru this tragedy.

Other Maui business owners have come forward and stated for people to please come. The entire island didn’t burn and they have to still make money to survive. I understand many many people are facing this terrible time, but the entire island can’t just stop living. They still need to make money to pay their bills and feed their families.

People plan vacations 8 to 12 months in advance. The focus should be on the federal government.

Tourists pay your bills. Finance your entire existence. I love Hawaii, been there many times. That’s the unfortunate reality. There’s no time to grieve because if tourism halts like it did in covid, businesses suffer and die off. I feel so bad for the people to Hawaii. DO NOT SELL THAT LAND UNDER ANY This was a land grab.

Meanwhile the Hawaiians in Maui that live in reality are begging tourists to come. They need to keep money flowing and their families fed.

We are in Maui, and so many locals have thanked us for making the trip. It is heartbreaking, and the sadness here is profound. This community is standing together. I’m glad to be here, and it is incredible to see first hand the strength and determination of the people here. God bless them.

We still need visitors, just not on that side of the island. Everyone please take care and be safe! Aloha and Mahalo!

They need the people to still come. Tourism is how they make their living.
