The sun turning black is a scary situation.

Lets not forget how much bees rely on the sun to direct themselves to get pollen from flowers farther away, and use that direction to get home as well. That and the flowers themselves would be sparse with the loss of sunlight. Bees are incredibly important and they’d be deeply affected by losing the sun, and in turn we’re done for 💀

It really would take longer than just eight hours for plants to start dying--an ordinary night can last for twice that long, and any plants that live in non-tropical climates are capable of lasting through a normal winter, so plants would probably not starve from lack of photosynthesis until after they started freezing from the cold. Likewise, animals are adapted to endure winter, so they probably would not starve sooner than they would freeze, i.e. after a few weeks.

fun fact: if we drain the light from the sun (somehow) it would become a white dwarf, a supernova or a black hole
edit: y'all am wrong guys it would become a red dwarf
still not a black sun because that is just not possible, when a star runs out of energy it just becomes big and then dwarfens into white, that's another possibility
