Steam blocks the sale of Helldivers 2 and now offering refunds

Due to the situation with Sony forcing the PSN login as of June 4th, 2024, Steam has stepped up to the plate and is offering refunds for those who have played the game over two hours and has blocked the sale of Helldivers 2 in countries that don't have access to the PlayStation Network. #helldivers2 #steam #arrowheadgamestudios

It wasn’t mandatory it said it was required if you wanted to play “with” ps5 players not if you wanted to play at all. Technicalities are the heart of contract law imo.

I bought the game a month ago and truly loved playing it. I have put in more than 150 hours into this game and now I have to go through this nonsense that SONY just HAD to do for some BS reason. It is IMPOSSIBLE for me to link an account since I live in China. Besides I don't want to make a psn account because I don't own a console. Man I feel so bad for the developers, it feels like to me that SONY is intentionally trying to sabotage the success of the game pulling this crap. I am gonna have to apply for a refund and uninstall the game since it will be impossible for me to play it anymore.

When I bought this on Steam months ago, there was NOTHING about another account. When I started the game the first time, it just, well, started the game. There was nothing about PSN. I don't have a PS, and I never wanted one. And I DEFINETLY don't trust Sony with my information (they have already been hacked half a dozen times).

For people that don’t think its a big deal, just imagine if instead of making a PlayStation account, you’d have to make a Facebook account. You’d be upset on that precedent. So why let this slide?

Actually… that’s pretty much what happened when Oculus Rift got bought by Facebook and became Meta Quest 1st gen. Eventually they got rid of the requirement in 2022.

Is Steam only refunding those in the effected regions that can't register for a PSN account or is it for everyone? I got rejected because I had over 400 hours in but that was early yesterday. I loved the game but I don't need it and if the requirement stays, I leave.

I have a dormant PSN account even but I haven't touched it since 2020 because Sony gets hacked almost twice a year and I'm tired of resetting passwords.

A note on ~2:50, the devs themselves said to go drop negative reviews, because Sony doesn't care about Discord and it gives AH more pull when dealing with Sony.

THose applying for refund. You will probably get a refuse on the first try. Just apply again and then the refund will go through a human instead of a bot. Most likely you will get refunded then.

It wasn't mean to be temporary only. The fact that Arrowhead and SONY allow selling of the game in countries that doesn't allow creating a PSN account during the launch of the game.
Good for Steam to allow refund though for affected user.
