Why assume the rabbits only create one pair of offspring? Rabbits often have multiple babies.

You get a new born bull and cow and after 3 years, at the beginning of the 4th, they produce offspring, a baby bull and cow. Next year and every year after that, they produce another baby bull and cow. These offspring (and their offspring in turn and so on) also always take 3 years to produce their first offspring, but just like the original pair they then produce a new pair of each sex every year after that. How many head of cattle do you have by the beginning of the 12th year? (This isn't my own problem so I'm not responsible for its unreality)

The question doesn't state that the original "newborn rabbits" are one male and one female... The answer can't be defined.
